There's plenty of facts and opinions presented. No need to regurgitate the posts (another time).

I have a 2000 4.7 auto. Love it, except for the gas milage. No problems, very easy to service. I believe it's the best motor on the market today.

Good motor, good gas milage. Can't expect econobox milage from a mid size truck with decent work capacity.

Pulls like a turbine from pretty much every speed until you're trying to accelarate from 70 or above. Then looses a bit of steam. At anything up to about 65 or so if you floor it on the highway it'll give you fast 5-3 or 5-2 downshifts followed by full spped ahead. LOVES to rev, I'll often floor it to merge and then before I realize it I'm flying past 5000 rpm in every gear and doing over 100. I never really find myself in a situation where I wish I had more power.

thanks guys i have a 93 that i put a 5.2 in and man that made an incredible diff. from the 3.9 but my tranny craped it self and i need a tranny and a new truck for the old lady so was thinking new dakota quad cab for the kid 4.7 and 4 wheel for when i get to drive it becuase i dont think i,ll ever go back to a 6 ecpecially since its smaller than my 3.9 was so again thanks everyone
