My buddy and I bought a 1989 GMC Safari van for $300. At 185,000 miles (with crappy upkeep) the 4.3 smokes like a freight train, but it still has decent power. So far we have ramped it, done some hellacious donuts, went offroading at high rates of speed, and still haven't suceeded in breakin the damn thing. We have lots of plans for this POS if we don't break it first. I think total destruction is our goal. I will post some pictures when I get the chance -they should give you a good laugh-

Be careful... I'll definitely enjoy seeing some pics, but I don't wanna hear any stories about a fellow Dak owner killed from doing Dukes of Hazzard stunts in a beat up old van. lol

Old vans make great off road adventure vehicles. I have a 1985
full size Cheby van that I drive in places that I would dare not
drive my 98' Dodge.

through the trees, over the trees ..... poor van :-(

Oh what fun you can have with $300.00

I just hope that They don't kill to many Chargers in the making of the movie. The TV show really pushed the Chargers onto the endangered vehicle list.

yeah, ditto on not destroying chargers. im an old mopar fan, i hope they dont use jessica simpson, shes not appealing to me, if you look at pictures of her, she always has this facial expression like shes taking a dump. maybe its just me i dunno. i would have liked to see carmen electra play her part, now that would be cool.

All those all muscle cars are getting harder to find, I don't think the tv show is to blame - if anything, it probably inspired a few people to fix up some Chargers. Did you know they had to pour cement in the trunk of one of the big block Chargers used for jumps in the show, to keep it from nose diving ? I guess you could say they ruined that one.

I remember once reading that The Dukes of Hazards Is responsable for the Charger being put on the "endangered Vechicle List" I can't remember that numbers but I think it was in the hundreds ( maybe thousands )Of chargers being killed.

estimated totals

Total # of Dodge Chargers Used during Original Production: 240
Total # of Dodge Chargers To Survive Production: 18
(Warner Brothers gave 17 away to private owners in 1993)

I am thinking i read somewhere they used something like 316.

A large #, but only works out to about 6 chargers sacrificed for every state in the union - hardly enough to claim they're responsible for endangering the Charger. Makes a great sound bite though. I wonder how many were preserved a while longer by people making General Lee clones ?

I can't see Burt Reynolds being BOSS HOG. He's not FAT enough!

Boss Hog was one fat pig.

Sean William Scott. For some reason I like that actor. The faces he can make.

Dukes Of Hazard Style? When I was in high school I had a 66 383 Plymouth Belvedere (if you know what that is STOP LAUGHING) that I used to get airborne.

The county was installing 10' or 12' culverts on a country road for flood protection and 1/2 way through the project the burried culverts looked like 10 miles of 15' high jumps,,, yeah buddy. As I recall, (20 years ago) we were doing about 60-70mph and getting the car off the ground for 80-100 feet. I don't know how high the car was off the ground, but we could see marks in the dirt where the car went airborne and then landed.

Pretty fun for a dumb teenager, but I wouldn't recommend taking a car airborne. Just think if a ball joint snapped or a tire blew under all the stress of landing a 5000# car at 70mph, or if you landed on another car.
