Yellow Check Engine symbol lit up last night when starting, after my truck sat in the hot parking lot at work, all day.

This morning my service dept said come on down (great folks, no appt, looked at it right away).

The code equates to: Engine too cold for too long.
They reset the code, said no damage done, everything is cool (well...it's cold). Truck still performs the same. Temp gauge always was and is at the same reading (lines, I hate lines, why did DC remove the numbers for 2001?), since the RS t-stat/chip was installed.

So, a BS code, problems with the Jet Chip and/or Robert Shaw 180 t-stat? (both have been in for over a month). Should I call Jet Chip and ask them about this?

I've got a tentative appt for 8/20. They know I have the chip and T-stat...thoughts on my next move? Go for the appt, remove the chip? Let them pull out the RS t-stat and examine it? (bring in the stock 190 t-stat which I kept). Reset the PCM?

My service buddy wasn't sure what kind of charges would come up if the RS t-stat was bad and he had to put the stock one back

BTW, I asked about the seatbelt recalls: only for DAKs built up till 3/23/2001. Mine was built 4/12/2001

Hey Mace,

If you truck has the 4.7 V8, I ran into the same problem after installing my 2nd of 3 180 tstats.

It was the RS 330-180 and it seperated into 2 pieces inside the housing and was not working at all. I was actually running about 130 deg and the PCM didn't like that at all.

I replaced it with the RS GT755-180 and everythings been fine ever since.

Can't really remember if the temp guage reflected the 130 deg, but it seems like it did(no numbers on mine either).

Anyway, I'd suggest checking your tstat forthwith.

Yep, 4.7 engine.

I've also got the GT755-180, I thought these things were bullet proof.

Gauge reading has remained constant since the 180 t-stat install.

I'll probably check the t-stat, only a month old or so...what was the time between failures for you?

Doesn't appear to be stuck open as the truck goes through it's normal warm up process, via watching the gauge, starts fine, idles normal, etc.

Mace,

My RS 330-180 failure was almost immediate, matter of a couple of days I think. Actually tried to forget the whole mess. Jet 180 stat ran at 195, 330- failed as described, GT755 runs fine. I feel like an expert on 4.7 tstat changes.

Anyway, sounds like you may have a different set of circumstances. Hope you get it all sorted out.

Regarding the recall... My 01' Dodge QC was built on 5/2/01 and it had a loose anchor bolt
(only in finger tight) on the drivers side belt.
Recommmend all check those anchor bolts regardless of recall specifics. Bill in NY
