Got caught in the big floods in Philly last night trying to get back home from the parents' house in my 04 Quad 4x4. No, I don't go running out to drive in floodwaters just for the hell of it. My dumbass never actually checked the whether for the day until I set out for home 7 in the evening and found myself driving in just over 2 feet of water trying to find streets that weren't closed off.

A couple of times I encountered washed out streets with 2-2.5 feet of water where most other cars were turning around and looking for other routes and I was like 'screw it', I don't pay nearly 400 bucks per month and 45 bucks per fillup for my big, bad 4x4 so I can get scared by a little water. 4x4 high goes on, truck moves foreward, and my Quad did awesome in levels of water that were admittedly probably several inches higher than what the manufacturer recommends as the maximum limit.

Ran without hiccups afterward except once I got out of the deep water in tight turns I'd hear this horrible squealing sound, mostly when turning to the right. And I'm thinking F!@K, what did I do to my truck! Otherwise it's running fine so I get it home and go to bed praying it's just some belt or something that's wet that'll go back to normal if it dries out over night.

Next morning, same thing but not as bad so I figure maybe if I drive it to work and let it sit during the day and dry out it'll be fine by the drive home for work. Nope, still making the same damn sound on the way home and I'm like SH!T, now I gotta get up early to run to the dealer and pray I didn't do thousands in damage to the steering components or something.

Just to be sure I stopped in a parking lot and duplicated the problem again at low speeds, except right when I heard that horrible squealing sound I stopped immediately with the steering wheel locked in the position where it made the sound and hopped out to have a look.

Turns out the front parts of the wheel well liners on both sides near the bumpers had been popped out of their normal place tucked in behind the bumper. I guess the force of all that water forced them back. Just little flimsly pieces of plastic that weren't even bolted on or anything. The front tires were coming in contact with the loose edges of the wheel well liners, which was causing the squealing and at the same time wearing away a couple inches from the edge of the liners. Took about 30 seconds to force each one back into place.

Probably wasn't the brightest thing to do, splashing through all that water. But it sure was cool as hell. Now I gotta decide if the frayed edges of those wheel well liners bother me enough
to consider replacement. Anybody ever done it? How much???

Had the same problem, only different circumstance. Wife 1.1 (we've been sepereated 1 time) had a minor front accident requiring a new bumper. I siezed the opportunity to upgrade to a Hansen Bumper for a winch. The shop fixed everything except left the bumper out. The Hansen bumper wasn't ready yet. Driving home from the shop all was cool till hitting like 50 mph. Then the same thing happened to me. the force of the air pushed the inner plastic piece back hard enough to pop the plastic retainer rivets out.

Wore that plastic pretty bad. I was a little pissed untill realizing I had to trim that part anyway for the new bumper.

Morale of the story..............................

Don't replace the plastic. Get a bigger bumper!!!!!!!1
