Anyone out there with experience putting in a block heater for an '03 Dakota, 4.7L?? I've heard they can either be simple or a total nightmare... considering getting one to install this weekend and wanted some advice. Thanks.

Depends on what type you get. One kind goes in the block in places of a freeze plug. Those can be a real pain to do, as the plu is tough to get to and replace. And when it finally breaks down (and they always do), you have to repeat the provess again.

The other kind splices in to the lower radiator hose. Those are a piece of cake. It takes longer to drain and refill the radiator than it does to install the heater.

If I remember correctly, the lower heater hose type generally put out more heat.

Double check to make sure you don't already have a block heater. Mine is an '02 and came with a block heater. The plug is by the "rubber flap" by the passenger side headlight.

We fried a couple of the hose mount style in a tractor at work in the last few years; good luck if you try one of those.
