.... the 1/4 inch insulation, UNDER the Cab?

My 2001 QC has the under hood thick piece with the rams head on it, and also,

the insulation UNDER the cab as well.

Just wondered if the 'sport' had that?

Pre-2005 engine sound insulation and under body insulation on SLT and SLT Plus only.
I'm going to go out and find the under the hood blanket either after market car part or at a junk yard there's a few Dak's that I've seen wrecked around my area. Mostly sliding off wet/icy/snowy roads or smacking into deer.

I wonder how much the underbody insulation will help, with the subtle whine my transfer case makes at exactly 50MPH.... I can only hear it, if I'm listening for it (and I'm PICKY about my truck :) and the radio is OFF/low

And what does the hood insulation really do? help the engine warm up faster? I wouldn't think it would quiet down the engine noise any, as most of that comes through the firewall...

The insulation under the hood is fire retartand and helps put out a fire in the engine compartment. If there is an engine fire the plastic clips that hold it up will melt causing the fire retartant insulation to fall on the engine hopefully putting out the fire.

To bad the accountants at DC decided your safteay was not as important as there bottom line and stopped putting these in the 2002 and up Daks...

Ya, right. What does it do? Keep the engine noise down for people outside the car? haha
If you ask me it sounds like more dead weight I dont need. Plus I think Id like to keep my engine COOL, not warmer...but thats just me.

daffydak, and QC,

I don't think it has anything to do with warmth of the engine, you were joking right?

ONE MORE POINT, I THOUGHT THEY ALL HAD THE FIREWALL INSULATION,

'CAUSE, MY 2001'S GOT FIREWALL INSULATION TOO.

This post was first to see if it was a SLT model feature, and 2nd, for all those who say, oh, the slt's only got chrome bumpers! (which apparently, some where made with the covers)

I took the hood insulation off of mine. It started to look raggedy and small pieces from the surface started to hang down. Made it look like a old buick under the hood. I tried to pressure wash it and soem areas cleaned up others stayed stained so I jsut took it all off

yeah I was joking about the engine warmth :-) I guess that the insulation could be used as an emergency blanket, if your stuck in a snowstorm ;-P

In all seriousness, my other sport (98) didn't have it either.... it was just a sport. I don't think you could get the "sport plus" in 98. I know that's what my 00 is though (down to the 31x10.50 R15 tires on 15X8.0 rims)

Free is right..That insulation under your hood is fire retartant and helps put out an engine compartment fire. This type of thing should be standard equipment IMHO.

that makes sense. the plastic clips melting, letting it drop on-to the engine. If thats it's purpose (fire retardant) it SHOULD be standard equipment!

Is this to say the $16,000 truck I just bought is prone to engine fires? Think about it...
Why would you need a fire surpressing mat unless the engine has a history of fires in the first place!!

Hum - Maybe this is due to fires that start after you crash because your balljoints failed??? and you tried to stop before you crashed but you rotors were too warped ....HA~!

Huh? must be an accountant...He uses the same logic the DC accountants used when they decided to remove the mats starting in 2002.
"Hey our engines don't catch on fire, lets get rid of those 10 dollar fire retartand mats. The execs will love me for saving $10 per Dak, then I'm sure to get the promotion to Senior accountant. Who cares about the peoples safety. I drive a Lexus anyway".

Im pretty sure "accountants" dont make decisions involving vehicle design.
YOU, freestyle, are just a flamer. It was my intent to make you use that little noodle in your head and think about why that is even needed in the first place. Do you work for DC? Seems like you get a little hot under the collar there, boy.
Let me ask you something - How much did the "accountants" save when the started using those shat, non-greasable ball joints? Want to flam that thought, flamer??

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Notice the newer Daks don't get the same badging others did ? Some claim it was a styling issue; I think one of those bean counters figured how much they could save by leaving them off, it all adds up. Aren't those mats more for sound deadening anyways ? By the time your wiring burns enough for the blanket to drop what's it going to put out - your metal block which wouldn't burn anyway ? Presence of the blanket doesn't indicate fire risk - they used to leave them off the old muscle cars to save the weight. Does anyone really think a slant six with its tiny carb and fewer wires is more likely to start a fire than a 440 ? Mat's primary purpose is sound deadening.

Hi Dan, looks like we were responding at same time - the "I wouldn't be so sure about that" reference was meant for "Huh?". I have the same under truck mat as well as sound deadening mat on firewall, but nothing on hood.

I knew you were talking to "Huh?" I didn't take it wrong lol :)

you bring up an interesting point about the badging... when did they stop putting the v8/v6 badges on? My 00 has them.... I think they stopped in the 01+ daks, when they changed the interior style.... I like the 4X4 stickers on the side of the bed on the later gen3 trucks. Maybe I can get those decals from my dealer :-P

My '01 QC doesnt have the engine badges but I have the 4x4 Dodge on the tailgate - I prefer it there rather than on the side like the new genIIIs - No offense daffy, but I dont like them on the side of the bed...Im actually thinking of removing them from my tail gate all together 'cause I need to get some painting done on that anyway...Just my preference though.
