Subject: Which Muffler? Help!!!!!

Message:
Im geting a custom dual exaust for my 1999 CC 5.2l. I'm having the pipes bent at a local muffler shop but I need to get the muffler and am not sure what size or what type to get. I do not want alot of interior noise but I want it to clearly be heard outside the cab. I was thinking about a few: Edelbrock-Rpm Ser. Flowmaster 50 ser. DynoMax Super turbo.

Also any size help would be greatly apreciated.

Thnaks in advance.

I have a 99 with the 5.2L and I have straight duals wright out the back. The sound is totally awseome.Plus this free's it up more without the mufflers. The sound is not loud in the cab but you still know you have them.It is a persons preferance, but I would not go any other way.

Try Dynomax Ultra-flo, this will give you a pretty good hp gains. Also the sound your looking for. Go to Dynomax.com they have .wav files, listen to the Durango with the turbo vs the ultra-flo. See which one you like...

My Dak packs a 3" Mopar cat-back which I wouldn't trade for anything, unless they made a dual version!!!

I have a single in dual out Flowmaster 50 series Delta Flow on my Dak. Very nice sound outside but the Delta Flow keeps it fairly quite inside. Thinking of changing it out to a 40 series just cause I want a little different sound. Friend has the 40 and it is not really louder than my 50 just a different tone. Getting my wifes 99 5.2 4x4 Durango's exhaust done tomorrow. Not sure if I am going with straight pipe and no muffler or a 40 or 50 series Flowmaster. Took the stock off today and man that thing rocks with just the cat and the pipe coming off of it. Suprisingly enough to me, it didnt loose any power from lack of back pressure. Guess the Cat is giving it enough. Drove it down the street and it really goes now. I dont think you would be disappointed with a 40 or 50 series Delta Flow Flowmaster.

That's what mine does Hawkeye.I thought back pressure would be a problem but I could tell a difference wright off the bat.I think you would be happy if your Durango had straight pipes because I know what it can do for preformance. The sound is really deep too I can't beleive that I turn my beloved stereo off just to listen to the Rumble of the 5.2!!!!!!!!!

I have a stock 2.5" exaust on now and I think i'm going to go with a single in dual out. But what size should i get the inlets in? Im geting the pipes custom done by a local shop. I would like to do straight pipes after the cat but the cops and random inspections around here are a b1tch. Since I live in Central NJ one of the most densely populated states. :( Thanks for your help guys.

P.S. Would a 3" inlet/ 2.5 dual outlet work?

Mike your pipe coming off the cat should be 2.5 inches so you will need a 2.5 in. On dual out you want no bigger than 2.5. 2 1/4 would be ok as well. If you were running a single out you can go with a 3 inch out.
Blue Twister, thanks for the info. I know that I would prolly be very happy with just a straight pipe but since it is my wifes I will most likely put a flowmaster on. She like the way it sounds open but wants it a little quieter since she does a fair amount of driving running errands and stuff for her work.
