Saturday (9/4) Motorweek #2401 on PBS TV ran a road test of the new 2005 Dakota, a SLT 4x4 Quad Cab 4.7 230HP. 0-60 in 9.3 sec., and 17.2 sec.@ 80mph in the 1/4. $26,809 on the sticker. Motorweek noted the "brawnier" styling, where "The protuding front looks like the result of a bar room brawl." LMAO! Read the report on www.pbs.org/mpt/motorweek, or check the Speed Channel for other showings this week.

That was 100% an advertisement, certainly not an article. The one negative thing (which oddly is the only thing 01Motorsport decided to quote is quickly excused in the article.

I'm all for advertisemtns, but in a periodical that is supposed to offer unbiased opinion of a product it's very disappointing. I don't mind a just the facts presentation, nor do I mind an opinion filled presentation. However, if it's going to be of the opinion variety then it should offer both sides of the coin. Very disappointing...

I thought Motorweek did a good "nuts and bolts" presentation for the time they allowed. Not ragging on the 2005 Dak; I'm for sizing up a live example. Anyway, no more "lightweight" Dakotas. The 2005 specs just came up on www.dodge.com. The truck on Motorweek weighs 4567 pounds, curiously only 67 pounds more than a 2004 4x4 SLT QC. However, the SAD part is that a 2005 4x2 CC weighs 4275, 300 pounds MORE than a 2004 at 3971 to 4035 curb weight. Performance and mpg take a beating.

Herein may lie the answer for the slow 0-60 times.

"While a 6-speed manual is standard, our SLT V-8 had a 5-speed heavy duty automatic with Tow/Haul mode, the only smaller truck with that feature, as well as our truck's available full-time hi-lo four-wheel drive transfer case."

Sorry, the answer is the weight. My 03 Rc Awd 4.7 will do it in 7.8 with 15.8 through the quarter. That extra 500 lbs is alot.

Deerridge, is yours a 4-wheel drive or do you have the street version of AWD (ie like the GMC Syclone had)? I don't remember the article stating what axle the 05 had or the diameter of the tires installed. These could affect the acceleration as well.

Its' the full time AWD and I also have the LSD. I have a friend with a old Ram 1500 with it and a 400 cu in motor. He has 465K on the odometer so I expect mine will last. YOu can't spin the wheels and its really hard to loose traction. I've only had to use my 4wd a couple times in real deep mud and extra steep slopes. It seems to grab at all four corners on good roads. Great for towing. I'm really pleased with it.
