Subject: 4x4 ride height?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a '00 QC SLT+ 4x4 5.9L. Now that I see more and more 4x4 QC's on the road these days, I started noticing that everyone else is running nice and level, the way I would expect. I have a very noticable drop in my front end and run in a "nose down" attitude. Is that the "price" I pay for the 5.9L? I didn't think there was that much difference in weight compared to the other motors. Is there?
Thanks, Al

I have the same problem and i have the 4.7L. I heard its the torsion bars and im waiting for aftermarkets to come out so i can replace them. I had them cranked up by the dealer once, but im not going to do it again cause i heard thats not good to do. I also have a bumper thumper on mine so i think that adds to the weight. Have you seen the (I think its the Toyota Tundra)? I thought mine was bad!!!

I almost bought the Tundra (sight unseen) but the "real" doors on the QC really grabbed me (not to mention that sweet 0.9% financing deal last fall...). I thought of asking the dealer about it since I'm due to come in for that seat belt anchor bolt recall. What did the torsion bar crank up buy you? I'm under warranty, so I feel that aftermarket suspension components are not on the program. -Al

The crank up they did only lasted about a week then it was back down to where it was. Its really not that bad, just wish it was more level.

I have a 2001 4.7 Sport+ with fender flares and the 265/70R16 tires.

Measuring from level ground to the center bottom of the fender flares, the fronts are both at 37 inches.

The driver side rear is 39 inches, the pax rear is 38 inches...go figure...the driver side has the gas tank, the pax side has a big Flowmaster SUV 50 series muffler with dual pipes...guess I should ask the Service dept about this.

Re: the difference in the front and rear height, is it really a torsion bar issue or weight of the engine that pulls the front down?

I think it's the weight of the engine, they shoulda beefed up the suspension a little to handle it though.
