I just got my truck back today from the dealer. I was having an intermediate steering shaft replaced. With out asking me the dealer replaced the motor parts that were in the recall for the windsheild wipers. The one they put in failed four hours later when the rains came. I just wished they had asked. I didn't want it done. The orginal was 1.5 years old and worked just fine. Anyone else have this problem.

Dealers love those recalls....It's money in the bank....I recently went to get some recall work done and when I got to the dealership they told me that another dealer in New Jersey (where I bought the car) did the work about 3 years ago...I've been living In Las Vegas for 5 years now. So there was no way the work was done...Had to call and Bitch to DC to get it fixed....Only hope the Dealer in NJ gets in trouble.
All dealers are crooks especially when it comes to recalls....Another reason DC is SOOO hesitant to do Major recalls....All the dealer fraud.

Funny, I took my 04 Quad V8 into my dealer for emissions and safety inspections and asked for the recall fix while they were at it. All of a sudden, a dealer who has always advertised themselves as requiring no appointments, and which has taken me on a walk-in basis for everything from routine maintenance to diagnosing wierd steering wheel vibrations, is telling me they can't fit me in for at least a week. Also their next available appointment is on a weekday when I need my vehicle to get to work.

My dealer doesn't have the parts in for the wiper motor and stated that they have them on order. That's why mine can't do it, don't know the deal with yours Eddy..

I had mine done two weeks ago, We've had rain here in North Texas for the last three or four days. Wipers work great. The old units could leak water in the motor and cause a failure. I wonder if they accidently put an old motor in yours by mistake?

If they have the parts but no time, tell them to give you the parts & you'll change it yourself. Spare wiper motors.

After romping the ever living piss out of my truck a week ago and then romping through 6 inches of rain water to clean the mud off (using my wipers a lot) I got home to find the recall notice in my mail box!

So. This last Saturday morning I call up my local dealer (Larry Miller) and ask if I can get my routine (pre paid) oil change. So they said no problem and that they had an opening. So I also asked about the wiper. They said they can do.

So I dropped it off at about 12PM or so Saturday and they said to give them a few hours.
About an hour and a half later they called and said the oil change and wiper motor was all done.

Used it again in the mud and wash (with water) all Sunday long without a lick of problems.

Anyway. I have had ok luck so far with the dealer except their grease monkey left greasy hand prints on one of my rims. But that could very well be an accident, the guy forgeting to clean it off. For all I know he had fun digging out some of the mud from the last romp!

Here in Alabama, the dealers I've talked to have the wiper motor on "National Back-Order", which seems to mean "The Parts Are Not Coming In Anytime Soon."

OH well, I guess its not really the dealers fault. They didn't know the new parts were defective. They did fix it for me the next morning.

I have a 2000 Dakota and a 2003 Durando and have yet to get a recall notice in the mail for anything on either vehicle.

Both vehicles have the dreaded passenger floorboard pool after every rain. Local dealership still claims they know nothing about any water problems with the Dakota or Durangos.

Had to have the dealer replace my Dakota's front rotors at 12k after they turned them 3 times in the first 10k miles, I guess 12k was the magic number for them to actually replace them.

...and to think I am actually thinking of trading in for a quad cab sometime soon.

WOW. That sucks. I've got 21k on my 2003 now and have used the brakes pretty hard several times. I tow too. Still working great.
Haven't had the water mess on the floor yet either. That would pi$$ me off though.

But what DOES suck is the insulation they place above the transmission UNDER the cab. After several romps through rain flooded streets (plus my weekend adventures in the mud/water) the insulation came loose and hung onto my tranny and driveshaft!
I posted this somewhere...

What a bunch of crap that is. I don't drive my truck for work so i left it like that until tonight. I grabbed a 1/8" steel dowel tonight and used it to arch up against the insulation and hold it up off of the drive shaft.
