Subject: 4WD Problem or not?

97 Dakota 5 speed manual, 3.9l 239.

When I have my 4WD engaged (never on dry pavement) and I turn my wheel, my right front wheel binds up. It is bad enough that it will stop the entire truck. I have to really give it alot of gas and straighten the wheel to free it up. Even when I am driving on sand and I turn the wheel, my right front wheel will skid. Is this a normal 4 WD function or do I have a problem? I never noticed this until about 80,000 miles, but I don't use the 4WD all that much.

That is definetly NOT a normal thing. The wheel should not bind under turning conditions. It sounds like you have problem possible with the CV joint on that side. I wouldn't recommend forcing it through the sticking point, that could cause some serious damage to the front drive components.
