Subject: Are they all LOUD?

Message:
I called AirAid to ask about using their intake on my 04 4.7 w/ 3" BL. Chip told me
#1 They are developing a NEW kit for the 04's since a few things changed from 03 to 04, I know I bought the 03 kit and had to make it work.
#2 The M.I.T. (tube) which is what I was interested in, makes the intake very loud. So loud at some RPM's that the last 3 he sold have been returned. They said they were so loud you could not carry on a conversation in the cab at times.
Any one with experience w/ AirAid's full kit w/ the tube have any opinions?
Or for that matter any one w/ and tubed intake system home brew or otherwise.
I want to get a better fit for the Filter kit I have (AirAid Quick kit) now that I have the BL, but don't want that much extra noise

Return the airraid and get a 360airintakez. They have dyno proven results. They aren't loud but they do sound very good.

I assume you're talking about the 00-04 Power Shot Kit (100-47PS)The one w/ the big shield is not for 4x4, which I am, and the other uses the stock filter box.
Does it come with the heat shield shown in the pics?
Which color makes the most HP, LOL.
Really though...I can not return the AirAid, no box, been running it for 2 months. 1 month before the body lift, one month after.
My biggest concern was that if the manufacturer says it's loud, and says it adds no more HP, "It's for guys who like the tube look," I'm thinking it must be LOUD!!!!!
When you say it sounds good, is it really only noticable when you get on it? How long have you had it? Do you even notice it normally? And the biggest question...Will my wife complain that it's too loud and ask why?????? She doesn't know about the Flowmaster 40 series and dual yet.

If you remove the air hat, the intake (regardless of product) will sound loud. I do agree with CThomp regarding the 360 as I have it as well. Most likely though, you won't be disappointed with either product.

That's not a 4.7 is it? Is that shield part of the unit, did you make it or just pay them extra?
Looks good though.

k&n FIPK looks really good too, and isn't too loud either. I prefer the k&n, but whatever floats your boat. the air raid, is that a metal tube? if so thats prolly why its so loud. both 360 and K&N are thick plastics, it insulates the noise better.

roaddog, that's a 5.2 motor and no I didn't make the heat shield. It came with the kit to my door for $160. Good product for my money.

I believe the 360 intakez are aluminum tubes. Maybe not the hats but the tubes are.

Roaddog, I think I responded to a post of yours in one of the other forums, but maybe not, so here it goes again. For reference, 02 QC AWD 4.7 auto.

I've been through 3 different configurations on my air intake.

1) totally stock, noise and performance are,,, well, stock...
2) Volant intake, tube, cone filter, half-azzed attempt at a heat shield, lots of intake noise at throttle up.
3) stock air filter and filter box, tube from filter box to TB, sounds like stock to me.

I used the Volant for about a year, and didn't notice much of any performance gain. Plenty of "movie roar" (remember the engine sounds from 70s cops shows?).

After about a year I got tired of the intake noise, as I am not a fan of intake noise, and put it back to stock. Note that the noise was only noticeable at 1/2 to full throttle, noise at cruise was not problematic.

Ran it stock for about a month, and then replaced the air hat with a tube (#3 above). I noticed no noise difference between stock and #3.

I am having a hard time believing Airaid that the tube by itself is causing noise problems above the Quick kit by itself. Anything is possible though.

The 360 produces more RWHP than the K&N Fipk. The dyno's are on both web pages. 9+ rwhp for the 360 and 6 rwhp for the Fipk. An the FIPK costs almost $100 more.
