Subject: Should I buy 2001 or wait for 2002?

I want to get a Dakota CC 4x4 with V8 and a 5-speed, but they are hard to find around here in Indiana. I could have a dealership look around for one for me, and then I would get the $2000 rebate. But should I just wait a get the 2002? I'll have to wait til August when they have info on it and then it will be another several weeks til I get the truck, but I'm hoping they will bring back the yellow color for '02. In the meantime, I'll have to drive my Dad's car til then. I'm very impatient person, but what should I do? I could save a couple of grand getting a 2001 but I can get the options I want for getting an '02. Thanks in advance!

P.S. I'm a soon-to-be first time Dakota owner! :-)

I'm looking to be a first time dakota owner myself and i'm gonna wait and see what's new for 2002...because ya know there will be something thats better than before. Just like when i bought my '98 ranger 4X4 ext. cab and in '99 they came out with the 4 door's on ext. cab. It's only a few weeks before 2002 info is released.

As far as I know, there are no major changes to the 2002 model. I know there are really good deals on 2001's, not sure what they'll have for the 2002's.

I just recently purchased a 2001 Dakota CC Sport, 4x4, 4.7 V-8, Auto, AWD. Seemed none of the dealers that I checked out had what I was looking for. Very few trucks equiped that way in south Texas. I finally just ordered my truck from the factory. Fully loaded, I paid 21350.00 with rebate, and it was equiped the way I wanted it. I would suggest ordering it the way you want and not taking what the dealer has on his lot. If you are going to pay some serious cash then make it exactly what you want. Oh, I must mention that it did take about a month before I took delivery.

The one thing you have to do is be patient. When dealing with car sales men remember that they are the lowest form of human life. Go to www.4adodge.com build yourself the truck you want. Then, go to one of these carbuying services I think you can use carpoint, edmonds etc. you can usually find yourself the invoice price. Now, do your home work findout about hold back. If some dealership has a truck sitting on the lot they going to be alot more open to deal with you/or if one of the surrounding dealerships. At least find out whats around that comes close to your truck if your willing to be flexible it could save you some cashish(I think I wanted the infinity stereo-I did without and saved over$1000) In general set the price before even mentioning any rebates if you grip enough about charges like "advertizing fees" etc. they will move on the price. In general financing incentives and such come out in November, monitor the Dodge site for rebates. Alway act prepared to walk away from a deal-if you can't act very well try your wife usually she won't be aacting. Why go through all this trouble? Money! Remember they will always prefer to make a small commish then no commish at all. Good luck!
