Subject: Plugs - Autolite Platinum?
IP: Logged

Message:
I just found this board this morning. I'm glad to know it's here.

My question is that I am about to get a tune-up on my '00 Dakota and am wondering about the type of plugs to put in. Does anyone have any stats or suggestions for what brand to use? I am considering the Autolite Platinum or Platinum Pro. I have the 4.7L engine and it has 40k miles on it, all ready!

Thanks,
Jason

The Autolite 3923's work very well in the 4.7's. The platinums are prone to pinging and mis-fire.

3923's are the number of the autolite plugs. If you go to your local auto parts store that carries autolite plugs, they should be able to sell you 8 3923 autolite plugs.
The autolite plugs are a standard copper tip plug.

Well, I kind of thought that, but wanted to make sure. So you feel the standard copper plugs are better than the platinum? If they work well and are that much cheaper, then what the heck...I'll try them out.

Thanks again,
J Lo

I use autolite 3923s in my 3.9 dak. They seem fine to me, no problems. I wouldn't go with platinums, those are more for longevity I think... I'd stick those in a van or something that's hard to maintain.

Dodge does not recommend installing platinums with coil on plug design ,Due to heat problems. AUTOLITE RULES MAN! THE BEST PLUG ON THE MARKET HOLMES.
