You might want to check the sides of your intake manifold. There are vacuum test ports that are blocked off with slip on rubber caps. One of these may have come loose. Also, you may have a sticking PCV valve. Can you pinpoint the general area where you can hear the hissing from??

Also If you have a vacuum leak, it will make the truck run rich because the MAP sensor is getting a low vacuum (heavy acceleration) signal and richens the mixture. At idle (normally) the manifold has high vacuum, the running rich is likely associated with the leak... there is a small rubber elbow that connects the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor to the throttle body. That may have come loose, or developed a crack.
one other thing, you may want to clean your IAC (idle air control) valve. this can cause a rough/low idle..

Sorry for the long winded post, I hope I helped!

The same thing happened to me when my battery was almost dead. The battery had just enough juice to turn the engine over, but not enough to run the computer. The engine would run at higher rpm's but would stall at idle.

An easy way to find if it's the battery is to just hook up some jumper cables from another car and see if the problem goes away. If it does, then a new battery should fix it.
