I noticed in the factory service manual that first and reverse gear have the same ratio of 3.00 to 1. Anyway, my truck seems to have alot more power going in reverse than it does in first gear (like this since new). Are they all like this, or is there something wrong with mine?

Any help would be appreciated.

I got a '99 and it's EXACTLY the same thing. It feels like it wants to move when u put it in R, especially when hot.

So, is this just the design of the tranny, or is there something wrong with it ???

What makes you seem to think... "my truck seems to have alot more power going in reverse" What exactly do you mean? Are you saying this because the tires break loose easier when you give it gas in reverse?

It feels like it has more power because your body is being forced on diffrently then normal. But its doing the same thing. Plus in reverse the truck is pulling but when it pushes all the weight transfer gets shot to the back and makes for more load.

It just seems that the transmission "slips" more in first gear than it does in reverse. I barely have to touch the gas petal in reverse to start moving, but in first gear it takes more throttle to get moving. I am just curious as to why its like this. Maybe it is the weight transfer, or there is more "slippage" designed into first gear. I dunno. Maybe I am just too fussy!!
