What shocks do you recommend for a 03 Dakota V6 Club Cab for a smoother ride. 90% local and highway miles with 10% hauling loads to the dump or material from Home Depot. The truck seems to jump around on the road pretty badly. I know it is light in the rear but the front jumps around quite a bit. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I swapped my stock shocks for Rancho RS5000's. The ride is a little harsher, but there is no bouncing or skittishness. Control and handeling are dramatically improved.

In the past, I'v also used Monroe Magnums on other trucks with pretty good results.

I went to Rancho RS5000 and they were shot in less then 4 months.

I replaced them with Monroe Reflex, gave me a better ride and smoother to boot!

That's pretty odd. Mine have been on there for nearly 50,000 miles and still feel great. I wonder why yours didn't last. Any ideas on that? Did you send yours back?

Start by checking tires. Shocks may not be as worn as you think. AFter about 7 months the ride on my 04 Quad got noticably harsher, almost to the point of being intolerable. Both front and rear would jump over big bumps, which was a big change from when the suspension would soak most things up without jarring the interior. I checked my tire pressure and it turned out they are all at over 40 psi since my last trip to the dealer. I aired them back down to 35 on the dot and everything smoothed out again.

I'm not sure why my Ranchcos failed. They were very stiff when I installed them. When I removed them the had almost no resistance to movement. Before this my impression of Ranchco was great, I figured I just happened to get a bad set.

The Monroe Reflex are made by the same company and are suppose to be equivalent to the Rancho RSX.

As far as possible causes, I do have BFG Land Terrain tires which require rebalancing often they might have contributed to the shock failure.

I did return the Ranchcos to DriverFX.com and received a refund.

I put on Monroe Sensa-Tracks all the way around at about 90k after the truck started feeling "mushy and bouncy"...

Sensa-tracks are a little bit softer for the first couple inches of travel. As the shock compresses further it gets stiffer. This makes for a nice ride in every-day driving. I've driven about 15k miles with the new shocks and have no complaints.

If you drive very aggressively though, the sensa-tracks tend to "throw" the truck into the turn a bit more than standard shocks when you take an extremely hard turn.
