I have a 1999 RT,the extended warranty is about to run out,and the tranny has gone from slipping just after it get's into 2nd,to slipping all over the 1rst to 2nd gears.I brought it in and somehow while I was there,it didnt slip.It has gotten worse since the last time I brought it in.I recently put the performance puter in,about a month later, snapped a tranny band, dealer fixed it.About a month later, sstarted slipping again.Bands were adjusted, tranny service done.Computer reset.I have read posts regarding governor pressure sensors, solenoids etc....can someone give me a good list of things to have the dealer check tomorrow.I want to resolve the issue before the warranty is up,and they dont seem to have a clue. Thanks in advance,Todd

Unless I'm 100% wrong, there are no *bands" in
your tranny. There are now clutch paks.

One thing is for sure, there is NO ONE at ANY
dealership that knows ANYTHING about trannies.

They are just prolonging any REAL repairs/replace
that is needed.

You might consider trading.. Believe me todd, it
will NOT get fixed the correct and under warranty
way..

Good luck

There are bands AND clutch packs in trannys... usually the 2nd gear band and drum is what takes the hit and breaks/burns-- there's a forward clutch pack that will go after that (by hoping 1st-drive it puts undo stress on the clutch pack-- that's the slip you typically experience).

If you are lucky, they'll just swap for a reman'd mopar unit-- as Radioman stated-- dealerships don't know squat about transmissions.

If you have to go with a replacement on your own, I would recommend APSprecision or Powerdemon.com-- both are good units with differences in price, location and warranty.

I run the Powerdemon-- and have been really happy with it after 4 tranny rebuilt-fubar attempts by the dealership.

Thanks for the replies.RT,when you say they'll just swap it,are you talking about the forward clutch pack,or the entire tranny.I think your saying the clutch pack, but want to be sure. Also, should that be covered by the extended warranty? Thanks,TOdd

Replace meaning-- replace the transmission completely-- most places if you tranny pukes-- they'll replace only the parts that are need out of a rebuild kit, and the mechanic pockets the remaining parts (but you get charged for the entire setup)--- Also when your tranmission 'shixs the bed' and puts material through out the trans cooler-- the cooler, lines (both the rubber and hard lines) need to be replaced-- as you can't get all the fine mess out of them-- even the back flush is only 50-60% successful. Pour some sand w/oil in a pan, then try to spray it all off with a hose--- you'll still have some left-- inside the passages of your tranny cooler-- it's gonna be 1000 times worse. I run all new hardlines/rubber lines, by pass the in-radiator cooler and run a new external cooler--- All things a dealership won't do. That's like putting a can of flat fixer in your tire rather than removing the tire and plugging it-- sure, it'll hold air-- but it's only a matter of time before it lets go.

You mentioned an extended warranty-- be careful with that--- if you have ANY modifications to the truck, they can void it-- (and sema won't be able to help much)-- as it's not a WARRANTY-- it's a service contract (aka-- insurance policy)-- and in the fine print most are stating "this contract can be void if the vehicle is modified from stock specifications"

Good luck.

Well, thanks for the help.It is the chrysler service contract and I know how that goes....Usually not in the customer's favor. It supposedly covers powertrain, but we'll see.The only mods I have are the Mopar Performance puter, and a cold air intake.I happen to know the service advisor I'm dealing with,so hopefully that helps some.My future plans for this truck involve either a supercharger,or more likely a lightning killer package.I guess if I plan on sticking to those plans I may as well plan on an aftermarket tranny also....:(

Tood I had the same problem with my truck. My transmission (hydrolic) would slip into 3rd and the backshift all the way to first and then begen regular shifting.

Also I thinks there just built to shift rough. So just get use to it. All the 46RE cousins (47,48) have the same shifting charcterists.

Go to your local Auto Zone and try a container of Locus. worked for me.
