You had better check again in the owners manual under quad cab 4x4. I have the same truck (with a 4.7) and it is rated at 4800lbs. The bigger engine was not much higher if I remember correctly. I have towed a bit over with my boat and trailer, but my trailer has surge brakes. I also have the awd option and that seems to be a plus as well. Remember that stopping is the real test. Good luck.

I have an 01 2wd Quad Cab 4.7 Auto with 3.55 LSD, tow package with cooler, larger alt, and battery and it is rated at 4800. You can bring that up to 6200 with 3.92s. I pull my 2900lb boat and trailer all over the place no problems but I live in FL. I am thinking about getting 3.92s even in FL because of the city driving and on ramps. If it is and auto, your going to kill that truck if you try to pull 6200lbs with 3.55s and no cooler. If it's a manual,(you wont need a cooler)then be patient and make sure the brakes work on the trailer. Be safe and live longer. Good luck.

You shouldn't assume Pat doesn't have the tranny cooler; it came with the tow package...

Dodge states that you need to put in synthetic gear lube if you tow. They don`t come with synthetic even with the tow package.

I pulled my 99 firebird on a 16' solid deck open trailer from south carolina to central jersey with no problems. I would say about 5500lbs total. I also do alot of local towing.
I had the factory tow package / heavey duty cooling, 3.55s.

2002 4x2 QC 4.7 Auto tow package 3:55s and I tow a 4000 lb travel trailer all over. No problem but you do need to try to keep it above 2000 rpm. It pulls great. Brakes are a must have though . Must states require them over 2000 lbs..

I have a 99 cc 4x4 with a 5.2 and 355's with out the tow package with an aftermarket trans cooler towing a 19 ft camper that unloaded weighs just under 3000lbs and prob a lot more after my wife loads up all the food and cloths. It does well up most hills but occasionally it seems to bog down.Im wondering if it just takes time for the comp to adjust.I would eventually like to change to a lower geared diff.

I have the very same (even year) set up as
cuckohio. If you have the tow package, you have
a tranny cooler already installed from the
factory plus all the stuff that comes with the
factory tow package.

You'll also find a plug in the area above the
brake paddle. That is for a electric brake
controller you install for your trailor brakes.
If you bought the truck brand new, the second
half of that plug was/is in your glove box with
directions. If you don't have it, go to your
dealer and buy one.

Just remember, DON'T USE OVERDRIVE when pulling
your trailor! Change your tranny filters and
fluid at 30k tops. It's up to you if you want to
use synthetic gear lube or not.

Don't skimp on the hitch either. Go to a RV
dealership and buy what they offer including the
sway control bar. You'll wish you had it if you
ever loose control.

Good luck..

Eric K. - you might take your own advice; your reply to my post was not useful in any way. You're just upset someone called you wrong, get over it. It may have been useful for Pat to know the tranny cooler is already on the truck.
