just did this on my 99 318. Check Engine is lit now. Normal? Will it reset after some trips, or should I unplug the neg terminal and try to get her to reset?

Thanks in advance for some advice :-)

ok, never the patient one, I took off the neg and let her rest a little, hehe.

Fired right up w/o a check engine light.

Blipping throttle now... idle is nicer then b4 mod. Seems to take up right away from the throttle. No light popping yet.

We'll see how she road tests :-)

Back soon.

just make sure you did not tighten the screws too tight. If not torqued correctly, the TPS could slide back to the original position (if under tightened) or stick in wide open position (over tighten).

Thanks for the advice. I think I did it right but I will double check in a week to see if it's moved.

I'm kinda new to the mod stuff...what is TPS and what does modifying it do?

TPS - throttle position sensor

Modifying it (if needed) will give better throttle response...might do some improvements on downshifting response as well, but not positive on that.

...But if you adjust it much over .75vdc (or overtighten the screws), your transmission may slam into the next gear (without revving down) and do some damage. This mod lasted all of 3 minutes on my Dak before I switched it back.

if I change my mind I can always dial it back incrementally until I find the sweet spot, or the original voltage setting.

Modifying TPS will only give better throttle resonse if your response is lagging - mine was crisp from the factory. If yours is too, there's nothing to be gained by this.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Opie,
Normally you can go up to 1 volt without any problems...anything over that will cause the problems you listed though. When you did it, did you check the voltage after you tightened it down? I know mine was a pain in the ass to keep at .75v while tightening it. By the time I was done it'd either end up at .85v or .5v and I'd have to loosen everything up and try again.
