When changing the front hub/bearing assembly, is the correct procedure:

Remove caliper/rotor
Remove cotter pin and spindle nut
Replace assembly
Install new spindle nut, torque to spec
Re-install cotter pin and brake assembly

Am I missing anything else important?

Sounds good except that my 2000 didn't have a cotter pin for the spindle nut, the spindle nut had a Nylok insert to keep the nut from vibrating loose and to keep the threads form rusting and corroding. When I changed my front bearings (instead of the whole hub assembly) I reused the Nylok spindle nut even though the service manual said to replace the nut. I put a couple drops of red Lock-tite on the spindle and a couple drops on the nut.

You need to price out the parts and figure the shop charge to press the bearings.
It was cheaper for me to swap out the hub assembly as opposed to doing rebuild.

The front hub bearing is $40-50 and having it pressed out-in shouldn't be more than $10. One heck of a lot better than a $165 assembly. I picked the bearing up at CarQuest, but Napa had it also

I posted the part numbers for the bearing from several manufacturer's about a year ago. Run a search to find the P/N's, that's how I found the P/N.

Look on Ebay for the complete hub, you can get them pretty cheap. I actually bought mine from Napa $90

gotta replace mine soon i got 108k. im just going with the hub and bearing assembly, too much of a hassle to just replace the bearing ($45) and its not much cheaper. a hub and bearing assembly only costs 75 bucks and i get brand new studs considering 1 of them is starting to strip. w00t

Watch the aftermarket hubs there's a recall on alot of them. check recalls.gov under the auto section and just make sure no one sells those to you when you buy one
