Just get some RTV sealer from Autozone (or anywhere else). I installed a "hard" gasket on mine and it ended up leaking. Replaced it with the RTV and no problems.

No gasket, use silicone. It comes that way from the factory.

BigK75,
It is expensive, but go buy some of the tube gasket maker from the dealer (dodge dealer). I have had repairmen from "other than dodge" repair shops swear by it.

I used "Right Stuff", it's supposed to be the same stuff that dan said the dealer uses, but it's available at most parts stores.

Thanks guys I appreciate the help. Just one more quick question to replace the pinion seal do I need to drain the differential fluid? my feeling is yes, because common sense tells the seal in leaking and allowing the differential fluid to leak out.

I drained the diff fluid on my front and rear diffs and replaced with gaskets from the parts store. Both of mine were sealed with RTV. Rear was fine but the front was leaking. The gaskets haven't leaked yet, but who knows how long they will last?

i just used simple rtv gasket maker on mine. clean off all the old gasket material off the diff housing and the diff cover, put a good bead of rtv around the diff cover, let it sit for about 20 mins to set and then put it on. did mine about a year ago and no leaks whatsoever.

BigK75, to answer your last question, no, you don't "have" to drain the fluid, but it will drain most of it when you pull the seal.

Thanks guys, I pulled the seal this weekend. It was tough job, but in the end it was worth it.
