Subject: Mobil Mercon V Synthetic Blend ATF
IP: Logged

Message:
This stuff says it is suitable for applications where ATF+3 & ATF+4 is recommended. Anyone know anything about this stuff, or do you think using this in place of ATF+4 is playing with fire? I am not sure as to the cost but I plan on checking is out regardless. If anyone has any experience with this I would appreciate any comments.

Thanks!

#1) It is a Mobil product and not Mobil1.

#2) Mobil bills itself as a "premium synthetic blend lubricant" or (ATF), using Group III base oils (hydrocracked conventional crude dino oil).

3) Therefore, It may be the same as (or similar to) Exxon Superflo, but I don't know for certain.

IMHO, it's probably nothing new since they have been marketing Exxon Superflo Synthetic Blend ATF, ... and Pennzoil, Valvoline, and Quaker State also have synthetic blend multi-purpose, multi-vehicle ATF's in the marketplace. ExxonMobil also blends and supplies the AAMCO Mercon V ATF ... just look at the back of the can.

Many oil companies are wrongly using the terms "synthetic blend" using "hydrocracked conventional crude (dino) oil" and calling it synthetic. Why ... is it just so that they can charge you a premium price using the word "synthetic"?

Why not use a 100% True Synthetic ATF like Redline D4 or Amsoil Synthetic Universal ATF?

Here is Mobil's quote, "Mobil Mercon V Synthetic Blend ATF is suitable for use in both newer and older Chrysler automatic transmission applications". HOWEVER ... They do not state that their ATF meets Chrysler's ATF+3 or ATF+4 specifications. Amsoil does!

FYI - Manufacturers can label a product as a "synthetic blend"
even if it is only 5% Synthetic.
