Nice truck, but honestly, I think the wing is "over the top"... (I like wings on cars, but they just don't do it for me on trucks)

But if you like it... that's all that really matters right?

The duals (and chip) got added before the z-tube.
At that point, best MPG was 18.1, so I'd say the duals did indeed improve MPG somewhat, prior to their install.

Since the z-tube (also addded 180 t-stat and 3923s at the same time), MPG is creeping back up to 18.1, best to date is 17.7 MPG...too much fun factor and heavy right foot involved...I need to do a nice trip and keep it mellow to see if I can achieve 18.1 again.

Keep those opinions coming!

The wing is indeed for looks but the extra weight is also a benefit for being over the rear axle and promoting less hopping over bumps...but yes, more form over function, I wanted my DAK to have different look...kinda like go ask a woman why she gets breast implants...to be noticed!

Re: a ricer look, nah, that would be a lowered DAK with all sorts of lower body cladding...my opinion.

The chip is to alter signals to the trucks PCM for some more umph...seems to be working fine so far. Our 2001 PCM have no Mopar upgrades, so it's either a chip or custom flash (about twice as much).

DR.Q or can I call you dad?

What am I thinking, hmmm, have already posted why I had the wing put on...email me if you need to know more.

Disregarding the doggy, you've pretty much described what my son would do to the truck if he was old enough and had a license to drive, something IMHO I'd say: No way!

Hey dad, post some pictures of your truck, what kinda DAK do you have? Any body mods in mind (stay away from vegtables and prosthetics, nasty habit you got, dad)

Diggin these posts, seems the wing promotes what I call the Madonna effect....'You did what!', 'You showed what'! 'Hey, keep it up, it's your's, ya got the right to do what ya wanna do' 'What, ban that b*tch!'

Wings, hmmm, spoilers on trucks, seems I've seen that before, oh yah, NASCAR, but true, they're more about function than form.

I admit 100% my wing is 99.9% form with .1% function for additional weight over the rear axle that the cover adds...

Well no kidding that the "Wing" is 99.9% form with .01% function. Which is exactly my point. Astheticly, your making a statement. Then you place this statement on the web for the world to see that you have just put a perfectly useless piece of fiberglass fluff on a perfectly good 4X4. If this is the statement you want to make fine. In the seventies people wanted to make the statement "I'm with stupid". But, if this statement conjures my opinion of your lack of taste that's my buisness and my point.

Hey, thanks for the support for one doing whatever they want to THEIR truck!

I like the wing, no hell, I love the wing...nothing is gonna change my mind on that.
(But the pictures weren't posted just to glorify the wing)

Everyone is welcome to voice their opinons, even those smacking of being: anal, self-justification to be nasty, childish, insulting, or full of narcissism and self importance. (my opinion of some of the opinions posted)

The ones I start to ignore or lose respect for are those who think it's ok to ram their opinion down ones throat, thinking their right and everyone else is wrong...at that point, they have me confused with someone who gives a crap about what they think.

I could say the above type opinions stink like...axxholes but I won't (I just did though, didn't I?)

But ya know, sometimes it's just a game, a little baiting and trolling...need bigger bait in this lake, though.

Anyhow, this isn't the only place where I asked: what do ya think of the truck, the positive posts far outweigh the negative ones....later!

As they say, if your gonna enter into a battle of wits, ensure your opponent is armed (otherwise, it's a waste of time)

As for personal/verbal face to face opinions of the truck, it's not just all about the wing.

I got invited to a car show, one comment (positive) on the wing, many (all positive) on the z-tube and that big honking 9 inch filter...now Doc, how does your taste in what one should do to their truck, pertain to the z-tube?

Care to comment on the mods to your truck, post a picture or two?

Look MACE I was reading through your posts and it seems what we got here is a difference of philosophy. What rally trips my trigger about my dakota is that is a total sleeper. Frankly I was looking just for a basic truck that would tow a boat. The dealer had my truck on the lot and cut me a good deal to get rid of it. Now i didn't really become aware of its potential until the spring thaw when I got all the sandbags outta the bed and could open her up. I didn't realize what a quick package it was (4.7 RC SLT 5-speed 3.92) untill I started cruising this website. I never had much patience for the excess gee gaw look- if you ask me you might as well be driving a honda w/ground effects, neon, womp womp stereo etc. which if you asked me are the spupidest looking rat boxes. Cuz all the modifications in the world isn't going to turn it into a porsche. For me the only thing I need to say that this truck is "my own" is the title. As for all the razzing I've been giving you-You left your self wide open for it. I don't know you for jack squat, all I know is your some dude that asked me what I thought of his inane wing. You asked for my opinion and yea I gave you a harsh critique. Now you can take it like a man or keep on whining about a personal vendetta that I have. (although bustin' your stones has been more fun then what I've had in while) So before we duke it out by the railroad tracks after school so you can you defend the honor of your truck-remember it's just a truck. And all the wings in the world isn't gonna make it any faster. You've got the basic mod package going-cat back/chip cold air intake. But its still not gonna make up for the fact that it weighs about 900 to 1100 lbs more than my truck. The only thing I'm planning to add is a hard tonneau cover and cd changer. Now i'm not saying my little truck is faster but do the math, this thing flys, and you could never tell by lookin-which makes it a beautiful thing. (even without a gaudy and useless wing) I mean if you want to communicate to the world that your the type of person who needs to add a useless and gaudy wing to his truck to fulfill somekind of need to be "cool",more power to you. In 1984 I thought that this red leather jacket with all these zippers (a la Micheal Jacksonwas) was cool-I only wore it once-what i was thinkin' I LOOKED LIKE AN IDIOT when I bought it I don't know. I saw that picture the otherday and laughed my fool head off. Mabe some day in the future you can develope a sense of humor about yourself and realize that putting a wing on a 4X4 tells the world I'm the type of person that would put a wing on a 4X4. If you look like an idiot thats OK you'll survive.

I'm not going to get into it about what you should or shouldn't do but I don't think it matches the truck. I don't know if it's the size (too small) or the form (too straight). It just doesn't sit right to me with the overall look of the truck. Now I don't like the ventguard things on the windows either but appearently nobody thinks that's worth giving you a hard time over. :)
If you like it more power too you. The only thing that I would want to make clear is that you shouldn't put this kinda thing on credit. I don't know if you did or not and it's not my business. I just see a lot of guys that get themselves into trouble over things they think they must have and two years later when their still paying it off they think "I don't even have that trendy thing anymore.".
A friend of mine had a custom speaker box and a new $500 cd player installed (not like anything was wrong with the ones he had) then a month later couldn't make his payment and it all went bye bye to the repo man. That just didn't make any sense to me.

Doc, nice novel (my turn now, and apologies to all you other fine folks)

Feel better getting that off your chest? I guess a simple no I don't like it from you (I have no problems with 'NO'), just won't do. Pretty anal about this, aren't ya? Now I've lured the real doc out (pet)

Sit down, shut up and show me the pictures!

My truck has a wing on it, you don't like, you're being childish, nasty, insulting and anal about it, now I don't care, so get over your double standard of saying my truck is my own thing.

You're starting to go to the 'my truck is better than your truck' smackdown...I don't care! (besides you're truck isn't...nah nah nah)

Come on, open up and tell us what you really think about body mods, seems you're a little anal about keeping a stock or sleeper look, but if that's your personal taste and you don't like form over function...that's your business, but I don't need it rammed down my throat.

Show me the pictures! (like I actually want to see them now)

Oh, did I say you're being real anal about the wing? You expressed your 'manly' opinion, now Get Over It and Move On!

BTW, you should keep wearing that red leather jacket (remember what made you get it in the first place). Looking like a idot (your opinion, not mine) probably fits you just fine.

Having fun yet? (sorry to the other folks that aren't interested in this crap, but he started it, it is getting rather boring, so I'll stop soon, as by now, we both have made our points)

DAK content: gonna take off the 3 inch chrome tips, put on two 12 inch coffee can tips, lower this baby so the gas tank drags, buy every Dodge/Mopar sticker made (for HP increases of course) and plaster every window with 'em, get a stadium sound system mounted on the tonneau cover, and buy some real bright green offset wheels that stick out sooo far that they'll rub the curb on the other sides of the street...then go looking for a bone stock, sleeper looking truck and race 'em up, down by the tracks, and show them what individuality is, having some balls and creativity for doing some 'body' mods to MY truck...

So doc, how about continuing this discussion as adults, sans the nasty, insulting, girly comments, or is that the only way you know how to express yourself?

Warning, adult feedback: I'm really ok with the fact that you hate the wing!

Hey Goto:

Thanks for the feedback...I've seen some wings that are very radical in design and almost toyed with a NASCAR truck style spoiler, but went with the A.R.E. setup.

Re: the visors, those are a function thing, they allow the windows to be cracked with out letting rain in when driving, also when parked on a hot day, can crack the windows for some airflow and not worry about those typical summer rain storms that can pop up without notice.

Re: credit, yah, I learned my lesson when I was younger and thought the money tree would never dry up...all mods have been bought and paid for, so I own them, not some bank or credit card company.

Anyhow, body mods pretty much done, moving onto final engine mods, that being Flowmetrics 70mm TB and IAT adjuster...gotta decide at what point to stop and give the wallet a vacation.

This is a true story :My dad finally got the cash up for his first new truck, so he buys himself a 1987 Ford F-150 6-cyl. Put a nice cab on it. it looked choice---until he drives it down to his hometown in Mexico. It comes back with lights on the visor and along the running board and these two sticks attached to the bumpers that had this multicolored lights that blinked AND a giant Virgin Mary on that back with lights around it. But the topper the horn plyed "la Cucaracha" I swear I'm not making any of this up. I never had the heart to tell him what I thought I guess some people thought it looked like a Mexican "Pimpmobile" but what can I say the man loved his truck.
Now the reason I wrote in in the first place Its getting to be time to get a new truck and I refuse to go GM and the F-150's are really overpriced. As far as the dodges go just about everybody loves them-couple of lemons. Would it be wiser to wait for the new modles or try to find a deal in stock?

I also have a fairly large stereo (2 12" woofers in the trunk with about 500 Watts of power) however everything was professionally installed and doesn't scream out "Hey... I want some attention! Lookit me!"

So does this mean I have a "pimpmobile"?
