Hey All! Great site! Love it!
I am in the process of purchasing a 02 Dakota Quadcab 4x4 sport/RT (not sure what makes it a R/T). It has 96,000 KM, 3.9 V6 and comes well equiped with options, but does not include pwr windows. I am closing the deal for $20,500 Canadian.

I have been shopping for two months for a used truck and I think this is the one. What I did noice however is that the truck does not have fog lights.....is this not standard equipment on a Dakota sport?

I am not a member of this awesome site, but will be once I complete this purchase!

Thanks to all who take the time to read/answer this post!
P.S. I sold my GMC Z71 to become a Dodge owner. I'm looking forward to my Dakota!

Rypper,
I have the same thing and I don't have fog lights eigther so I don't think it it is standard. But I do think you are getting ripped off. I bought an 02 Quadcab V8 4.7 Auto 4x4 16,000 miles with PW,PL,PS,PB,CD player and bedlinner for $18,500. That was in Feb. and in Central Minnesota.

Unless it's an odd Can. edition I would say that truck is mislabeled as an RT. They didn't make'm in quad-cabs,,they didn't make'm w/4x4,,,and they didn't make them the 3.9 for sure,,amongst other differences.

Excuse my ignorance on the exchange,,,but I would say that truck is worth at most $15k US.

Hey Bud and Zen!
Thanks for your answers!

The current rate from the bank of Canada is 1.36, so one US dollar = $1.36 Canadian (Lucky buggers)

Therefore $20,500 Canadian converted to US is $15,035.94.....so I'm close. Bud $18,500 US works out to be $25,222.90 Canadian, but 16,000 miles works out to only 25,600 KM.....that is the going price here in Winnipeg Manitba Canada for a clean (low KM) Dakota.

I'm glad to hear that you don't have fog lights either. I was concerned that maybe the truck was in an accident.

A local dealership gave me a list of options for this truck from the vin number I gave them. The options show two preferred package codes, 24B and 2TB(or 2TBA)...any idea what thes are?
In regards to the R/T, I ran the vin number through www.carfax.com, and it came up the discription 2002 Dodge Dakota Quadcab 4x4 Sport R/T....maybe and error in their database?

The vin checked out clear of any write off or accidents, but not sure how reliable carfax is. I paid $24.99 for a months worth of vin lookups.
Thank you guys again for taking the time to repond! Do you guy like your Dakotas? Would you buy another?

FYI the truck is FLAME RED...GO CALGARY! LOVE IT!

Best regards,

rypper

Are the options different in CAnada or something? So far as I knew, the 360 is the only motor to be found in an RT and it comes in regular and extended cabs, always rear drive. Could this be some sort of dealer installed accessory package they're calling RT?

I own an 04 4x4 4.7v8 automatic Quad CAb. Do I like it? Absolutely! Would I buy another? Not sure yet. Get back to me when I have 100K relatively trouble free miles. So far Im only at 13,700. My general impression of the truck so far is that the performance, concept, and packaging are superior to anything else in it's class, but on some things Dodge seemed more concerned with saving a few pennies than with maximum longevity.

Examples: I needed front rotors at 7800 miles and my paint seemes to scratch and chip instantly if anything other than air touches it, no matter how soft the object or how light the contact.

Two things make it more worth the quirks than anything else: It's got a better ride and handling comprimise than any truck I've ever driven before, and even beats out all but the more high end cars I've driven. Taut but well damped like a sports sedan, grip is good, and it's agility is very un-truck like, even in the higher riding 4 wheel drive.

The other major saving grace, the 4.7 liter motor is always good for a giggle. Which is one reason Id strongly recommend you consider a V8, by the way.

And keep in mind by the way, so you see where my ride/handling comparison comes from, I drove the last generation S10, current Silverado, a 2wd 95 Ranger and a rear drive 01 Ranger, a 97-03 F150, an 04 F150, a rear drive 04 HEmi Ram, and an 03 Crew Cab Frontier. The only thing that came close in ride and handling quality was the FRontier. IT along with the Dakota always impressed me for how excellent the ride and handling were for a high riding 4x4.
