I have a 2002 Dakota with 32,000 miles. I, like most on this board, worry about the ball joints wearing out on my truck. I saw in ACE Hardware the other night a grease injector needle. You hook it to the end of a grease gun and stick it through the boot and pump in grease. Has anyone tried this on their Dak and has it helped lenghten the life of these horrible ball joints? Just a thought.

I've done this to other vehicles in such components as Stabilzer links and squeeky TieRods and BJs. and it has corrected the problem and lenthend the life. I don't see why it shouldn't make a difference in the life of the BallJoint as long as you keep greasing it prefferably through the same hole if you can find it back.

Can't hurt but might not help - surrounding the joint with grease isn't the same as getting grease into the joint.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Here is what I did: Get the needle for you grease gun and inject grease into the balljoint. Just dont fill it full so the boot is hard. When you remove the needle the grease will just come pooring right back out of the hole you made in the boot. So just pack it enough so its squishy and remove the needle.....but then put some RTV on the hole to seal it up. I personally dont like grease all over my front end parts. So far its working great and I feel better with packed balljoints. This has to help a great deal.
