Subject: Bad Alternator???
IP: Logged

Message:
Just recently something has been happening to my turn signals, brake light, tach etc. Everytime i put the turn signal on and the brake, the turn signal lights (both of them) dimly light up along with my high beam light, and my tachometer (aftermarket) drops to zero, the engine runs fine during all this. What could be the problem? The turn signal works fine alone but when the brake is applied, it messes up. It is even more sensitive to this when the lights are on. I thought it could be my alternator goin bad, but wouldn't my battery not recharge and other things like that be happening also? This morning everything worked fine, but driving home it was doing it again. Oh, and when the turn signals mess up on the dash lights, they are also not working outside. I don't know what it could be...please help. BTW, its a 1998 Dakota CC Sport with 2.5L 5 speed. Thanks

checking the light socket, sometimes when they short to ground this happens, I had one do this a while back and even tho it checked good I had simular symtems, and ended up replacing the bulb sockets, that was the only thing that fixed it.

How does your truck start? By the sounds of it your alternator is not working or not charging at 100% or your batery is not holding a charge. But if that was the case you would not be able to start your truck either.
