I HATE TO BRING UP THE BALL JOINT PROBLEM BUT, I SEEM TO GET A POPPING/CLUNKING SOUND WHEN I ACCELERATE, BRAKE AND TURN LEFT OR RIGHT I WAS JUST WONDERING IF THIS IS WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE JUST BEFORE MY WHEEL WILL FLY OFF GOING 100 DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO A MECHANIC BUT HE SAID THAT THE WHEELS WERE TIGHT WITH NO PLAY WHEN HE APPLIED THE OLD BALL JOINT TEST I BEG A DIFFER BUT NOW WHEN I GO OVER MODERATE TERRAIN IT SOUND LIKE SOMETHING IS LOOSE IN THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AREA WOULD ANYBODY WITH ANY IDEAS PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK I JUST GOT THE TRUCK AND AM A LITTLE SCARED RIGHT NOW AFTER READING ALL THE POSTS ON THIS SITE,

PS I HAVE A 2000 QUAD CAB WITH THE 3.9

Could be the CV joint in the front driveline. These can wear out with symptons similar to what you have. They wear quite fast if the rubber boot by this assembly is torn, releasing the grease. Why do you beg to differ with the mechanic ? Did you observe slop in the wheel when he tested it ?

Check steering shaft telescopic point if its just a little loose you will feel it replace with a borginson brand its worth the money.

I think it could be your ball joints I had a similar sypmtom on my 2000 4.7 Quad and it turned out that my ball joints were bad. The dealer replaced them under the LDS warranty I had and didn't cost me anything $0 deductable.
