Does anyone out there have any experience replacing the a/c condensor on a gen. III dak? I need to replace the hood, radiator, cross member, grill, etc... I think I can do all that fine, but the a/c has me a little confused.

Are you talking about an A/C compressor? It sounds to me like you are fixing some front end damage...right? Also, what year and what motor do you have?

You should be able to " replace "
the condensor easy enough .
But , does the original still have pressurized
' fluid' in it ?
If so = need to " evacuate " first..
Refridgerator mechanic or ' garage ' can do.
Then after you get all changed // back together
system can be re pressurized.

I need to replace the radiator looking thing that is just infront of the radiator. Is that the condensor or compressor? I assume it is still pressurized, can I not do that on my own?

Ooops, Yes I'm fixing some front end damage. It's an 02 3.9. Will the hood from any gen. III fit it?

Jeremy,

Unofficially you can do A/C service work on your own. It doesnt take much to depressureize your a/c system. Just find a connection and losen it. You will however have to go to a garage to put a vacuum back onto the system when your done. (unless you have a vac pump). Then, once you have a vacuum you can simply add R134a yourself. It is sold at every wal-mart along with the filler connection. Approx cost around $20-$25. Just make sure you fill to the right level. Sticker on the inside of you hood will tell you A/C capacity.

I don't know where you live or what your neighbor situation is,
but if someone knows what you are doing, and doesn't like you
and decides to report it you will have a massive fine from the
EPA on your hands. Better be sneaky.

So I removed the radiator and a/c thing. Should I be searching for a new condensor or compressor? I'm guessing the thing in front of that is the trans. cooler? Anyways, I depressurized it just fine. I finally found the stock electric fan everyone has been talking about. Both the clutch fan and electric fan are fine, but the shroud for the clutch fan is smashed. I've read where people just use the stock electric fan and remove the clutch fan totally. Or they upgrade the electric fan. What should I do?

To another mark,

Mark I'm sure that the right thing to do is to have it taken out by a profeshional. Although it is illegal to evacuate it yourself, they shouldnt sell 134a on the open market then. What's better...a car with a slowly leaking a/c that they keep filling up ever couple of months or a quick evac and then being put back together the right way?

I just ordered a new radiator and a/c condensor from performanceradiator.com. The radiator looking thing in front of the radiator is the a/c condensor right?

if you gotta ask that many times what the name of the condensor is maybe it would be best if you got a mechanic to do the job for you. your inate lack of knowledge shows itself in your q's and to be sure, sooner or later you gonna mess it or yourself up bad just from lack of knowledge.

Whoa, just because you have an electric fan (which is probably a pusher and not a puller) don't think that's getting the cooling job done on its own and yank out your clutch fan. The clutch fan is doing the cooling, the electric fan is just helping and can't handle the job alone.

I asked that many times because no one answered that simple question including you jack a$$. Some morons on here keep calling it the compressor which is what had me confused in the first place.

There are plenty of people on here running the stock electric fan with no problem. I'm going to remove both stock fans and go witht he black magic electric fan.

Now there's a confusing statement. The only Dakotas that are
gen 3 that have a stock electric fan to my knowledge are 4
cylinder trucks only.

I pulled my clutch fan and am just running the electric. It's a 2001 3.9 and the electric is stock. I've had no probs at all. I did swap out to the 180 T-stat too, which helped. On that subject I know guys who have towed and run in Texas summer time heat with the stock e-fan alone and never had trouble. They also used water wetter.....

You obviously don't know what your talking about. I have a 2002 3.9 as well. It has a stock electric fan as well as the stock clutch driven fan. I have both of mine on still but I've been considering getting an after market electric fan to replace both. I would just leave the stock one in, but I live in pheonix and it's gets mad hot down here.

david w., thank you for pointing out I don't know what I'm talking about, do you feel better about yourself now for having done that?

Interesting, you copied and pasted where I posted the words "to my knowledge" which means exactly that. Let me rephrase..."as far as I know". Clearly, that's not everything.

I love these petty little disputes on here. Please feel free to now critique my spelling or any grammatical problems with this post so you can continue to demonstrate your superiority to me. In case you can't tell, I'm being sarcastic. Where is that guy spell check at? I'm sure he'll find something.
