does anyone know if there are two types of rotor designs for a 2001 dakota??? i bought a pair at a local auto-zone and they are the type that just slides on without having to take the center bolt off the hub. however, the ones on my truck look like you have to take off the center nut on the hub to get them off. my truck is a 2001 V-6 4x4 2 door ext. cab. please let me know asap!!

thanks in advance!!

I believe they're all hubless, (slides right on). Mine were seized on and I needed to use a 4 pound sledge to take mine off. I was able to get 52,000 miles out of my originals without any turning.

My 2000 R/T's rotors slide ride off. My 2002 4.7L SLT also slides right off. Yours are probably seized. I've never had that problem, but I've read where several people have had their rotors seize to the hub.

Your wheel bearings will be alright, but the rotor will break if you hit it too hard. They like to bust aroung the stud hole area.

How about soaking the area where the rotor contacts the hub and studs with some WD-40 or penetrating oil and then applying some heat. Don't get it too hot, you have plastic seals in your wheel bearings and the seals are non-replaceable.

Watch out, WD-40 is flammable. It's not going to explode, well unless you hold a lighter to the aresol can and create a flame thrower, but it will burn.

Are you sure you removed the retainer(s) on the studs first? I don't understand why yours are so difficult to remove. Once the caliper is off there is nothing but those retainers holding them in place.

there aren't any retainer clips on them. i think they're just seized like mentioned above.

good news!!! i finally got the damn things off today. i had to bang the crap out of them to get them off. they were on there pretty good. here's a little tip for someone else who may have a hard time getting their rotors off. don't just spray 3-in-1 oil on the studs and center part of the rotor, also spray in behind the inside of the rotor where the rotor actually touches the flat metal which holds the studs. after i did that and let it sit for a few minutes, i started banging away and they came loose!!

thanks again everyone for your input, it was very helpful!!!!
