Folks, I'm thoroughly confused right now...I'm wanting to trade/sell my '03 Silverado and get a Dakota but am torn between the V6 and V8...The V6 is around $2000 less here in Austin but am wondering about resale value when I sell it later..Will I be "content" with the V6 or will I slap myself silly for not getting the V8 ???? Help folks; I need input..Thanx, Marty

Marty: Going to slap yourself if you dont get the v8.....If your not after gas milage that is. Nothing like the power of the 8. Also depends on the motor to. 5.9 is more torque, 4.7 likes to be in the upper R's to make it run best. Lots of decisions I know. Good luck. You will enjoy which ever Dak you get. I have a 01 R/T and wouldnt get rid of it for nothing. Test drive 'em all to make sure. Let us know what you get.

I am also "considering" the new Colorado but not sure about it...I REALLY like the size and stuff of the Dakota but still, $2000+ more for the V8 and 5sp is gonna be rough on the pocketbook...

WEll think of it this way. How important is power and performance to you? IF it is, then the 2 grand more for the v8 and 5 speed is nothing in comparison to all the money you'll loose trading it in in on a V8 in a year or two when you get so sick of the lack of power that you cannot stand it anymore. So cheaping out on the engine now makes little or no sense if you end up trading while upside down and loosing many thousands more in the process to get a truck with the powertrain you wanted in the first place.

On the other hand if you don't particularly care how fast the scenery moves when you hit the gas as long as it does actually move, then go with the V6.

But the most important thing to remember when you look around this site: I see tons of people talking about how they have a V6 but they're kicking themselves for not getting the 8. I almost never hear someone with a V8 say they wish they'd have gotten the six. They might bitch about gas mileage alot, but if you ask most still wouldn't give up a V8.

PErsonally... I drove a 4 cylinder compact pickup for 5 years before this. I saw 5000 rpm or above WAAY too often just trying to merge with traffic without getting rear ended. So the V6 Dakota was never really even an option when I started shopping.

I am averaging high 13s or low 14s overall right now, 70-80% highway, the rest stop and go. 10 thousand miles on the truck so far. And no, Id never accept a smaller engine.

So thu graphite is like an "old" color and if I'm (which I am) a Texas Aggies fan (maroon)...Maybe I shud go for the molten red/maroon being offered ???? I know from experience (I live in Austin, the home of the burnt orange Texas (poop) longhorns, that there aren't many maroon ones running around..And within 50 miles of me they got 2 for sale...Maroon upper with silver lower.....Think that's where I shud shoot for ??

The Maroon options (Deep molted red) is a 150$ upgrade and i have yet to see it on a Dakota on a lot, i live in California and when i got my new 04 they searched a 400 miles radius from Los Angeles and couldnt find a Deep Molten Red on a lot anywhere, the only way i could get one was to order it from the factory and wait the 6-8 weeks. I got the Graphite which i love, its a sweet color on the daks.

And in y'alls opinion, would ya go with the reg blask/gray spray in bedliner or maybe try to match the interior (taupe/gray) ???? I won't be using the bed much but LOVE the last rhino liner I had sprayed in.....Just "thinking" the contrast wud be neat if the color of the bedliner and interior was similar, PLUS I'm gonna have them "spray in" the RAM I think !!!!!! Just excited as hell if ya didn't notice !!!!

You've had it couple days now. Might as well start moding it. Order your air intake, headers, throttle body and H.O. cams. You'll need a good tonnoeau cover too. They're far to much fun not to play with.
