I've got a dak, that's why I'm here trying to get some help.

The wife's car, a 96 Mazda Protege. The A/c works at start-up, but latter on quits engaging. It quit working before, and the Firestone serviced it, and analyzed that the gasses, Freon, air, etc. weren't right and it worked OK for awhile.

Any ideas, if you're good with a/c sytems?

TIA

Hi Todd,

How did those storms leave you over the weekend?

Does your wife's car overheat? When the system itself gets hot from engine heat, it stops working. Or at least blows hot air.

Feel the hoses leaving the compressor. One should be ice cold. If one warms up as the AC quits, try insulating that hose.

Good luck!

Saturdya night, on galveston Bay, was where I was when the brunt of the storm hit, what a ride!

Our Mazda is not overheating. After it gets warm, the compressor won't kick in anymore. Something with the pressure of the refrigerant I suspect. Everything else is fine, and it works fine for awhile, then stops blowing cold, etc.

If it worked for a while after it was recharged sounds like you may have a leak. Possibly you have a low refrigerant charge causing the evaporator to freeze up restircting the airflow which in turn causes high pressure and activating the high pressure cut off switch,

Bobby,

U R probably right. I took it to a Firestone today, and they put dye in it, couldn't find anything, and added about a can of R134, and it's fine again. Oh well, I'll look for the leak, and fix trhat myself, to save some $$.
