Subject: brake pads

Message:
O.K. guys, I need to get new pads for my 2000 4x4 so I need to know which ones to get and where. I will be having the Raybestos rotors I put on a year ago turned and want the factory pads gone when I do it. So which pads should I get, and where on-line should I get them?

I always ran the cheap soft pads thinking I was saving money by putting less wear on my rotors. The problem was that my rotors kept warping and I had to have them turned every 10K. The last time I picked up a set of pads I got the Carbon Metalic pads at AutoZone (they were out of the cheap pads). Since then I have put 9K on them and I have no signs of warpage and they stop perfect every time.

I've used the carbon metallic pads from AZ on a couple of differant vehicles. I really like them; low dust, no noise, improved braking.

I'm not sure how, but with the Carbon Metalic pads up front, my front wheels spin almost effortlessly. With my front end jacked up off the ground, you can spin my front tires and they almost free-wheel like the old drum brakes used to do. I'm not sure how that is even possible since the pads on disc brakes are always in contact with the rotor. My point is that I now have less rolling resistance/friction which equals better gas mileage. And like Bob. said, they produce very little dust and they never squeal or grab. I was going to try the ceramics, but I'm too satisfied with the Carbon Metalics to try anything right now.

just cuzz their touching dont mean their touching hard enough to slow the wheel down sorta like lightly dragging your finger across the hood of your dak. then as when your brakes are on puttin all you weight on your finger then trying to move it, you fingure is still touching but it ain't goin no where. damm boy when it comes to mechanics you seem to have no concept of how things work!

I use to have hawk pads, they squealed a lot so I took them off. I run the same Autozone pads as WipLash and like them a lot better.

uh wip,
whoever you nameless chicken POS is, my 93 Caprice will not do that. It has the soft cheapo pads on it and my Dak wouldn't do it before I put the Carbon Metalics on it. The soft pads grab with very little force. They would shutter and growl when barely applying the brakes at idle in 1st gear. The Metalics don't do that. Also, the soft cheap pads would glaze over on the rotor and make the problem worse. The the rotor would warp wich made the problem of the pads dragging even worse.

If this wasn't a concern or if it didn't exist like you said they wouldn't make zero friction disc brakes for drag racing. That's right, several years ago they made a disc brake for drag racers that would pull the piston back away from the rotor so that it had less drag. I could probably find them on the internet for you just so you can get educated.
