Just another ball joint question. Have the 2003's been changed? Most of the posts I see and the NHTSB site refer to 2000 and earlier vehicles having the problem.
Thanks

I can't really help you on your 2003 but I just changed all 4 on my 97 2wd and it was a chore,
I lowered the front end while I had it all apart and now I am affraid I won't have time to lower the rear for a few days, so I am going to need soem weight in the back so I don't look like a tool!!!

Good luck

ALL the ball joints on ALL the newer Dakotas are garbage. Chrysler hasn't done squat to fix the problem...they just keep cranking out defective product.

Do yourself a favor and go to rockauto.com, order the Moog problem solver replacement ball joints, pay Big-O or some other decent tire shop to put them on for you, then forget that there was ever a problem.

Just got all 4 of my ball joints changed about a week ago. $180 for the ball joints and $250 for the install (including front end alignment). My uppers were starting to make noises so instead of swapping just the uppers out I chose to do the job right and replace both uppers and lowers. The job requires some fairly specialized tools, and it is a lot of work, so I recommend that you don't take any chances and just pay someone else to do the replacement for you. Hell, you'll have to take it into a shop anyway to get the front end aligned afterwards.

I heard that one of the Moog factories burnt down just recently, so I'd buy up those ball joints ASAP. It took me 4 months to get the uppers in for my 2001 4x4. I hope you have better luck.
