I had the same question a few months ago. yes they still turn. the power is cut off in 2wd at the transfercase, but the rotation of the tires still spins everything. This is common with cv joint style front axles.

Is this set up different for different years? I have a 1988 Dak and when I have it in 2HI my front driveshaft does not turn so I assume the front axle is not turning.
