Subject: Hard To Start in the Morning??
IP: Logged

Hey guys (and gals),

I've got a(nother) problem with my truck, this time it is having trouble starting in the morning, mostly I think after the engine has been shut off for more than eight or so hours.

It starts just fine but it immediately cuts out, cranks over then just dies like it didn't get any gas.

I have been able to overcome this by giving it gas as/after I start it up and hold in in neutral @ about 2000 RPM for a couple minutes, then as the RPM's go back down it seems to 'catch' itself and stay running, however it doesn't run quite as strong as it should. It'll start up easy as ever the rest of the day though.

I just started to hear hissing from the engine a few days ago, sounds like it's coming from under the valve covers (fuel injectors??); could that be related to this non-starting problem?

Throwing no codes.

Mag V6, 20,000 miles, auto trans., only an air filter and muffler added to it. Still under warranty if that applies to this at all.

Thanks

The list of things that can cause this pretty is a little long. But it's usually not anything drastic. Occasionally it can be, but not often. Check under the hood for the obvious things. Clean and tight spark plug connections, clean distributer cap, intact vacume lines, etc. If you have the time, pull the plugs in the morning and see what they look like. If you don't find anything obvious, take it in and let them mess with it. That's the point of having a warrenty.

First off, thanks .boB for responding, I would have done it earlier but I didn't think anybody replied to my original post.

Turns out the truck started putting out the p0456 code. Turned out NOT to be the gas cap but a small vaccuum line leak under the hood. Picking it up tomorrow. Should be fine.
