Subject: 96 Ext Cab 2wd NO LIFT

Message:
I have come to the conclusion that there are no lift kits out there (Suspension or Body) that will fit on a 96 Dakota 2wd Ext. Cab. If you know of any please tell me. But if I am correct please tell me I am because I've looked hit and low for a 2wd kit.

This is by NO MEANS meant to be flaming, but a genuine question. What motivates people to put lifts on 2WD trucks? On 4WD's I can see the need for bigger tires with more grip, higher ground clearance, etc.. But on a 2WD it's not as if you'll be offroading really, or will you?

Personally I don't even see the need with a 4WD as the loss of stability doesn't outweigh the additional ground clearance.

So, is it simply for looks? Whatever it is, please let me know, or anyone for that matter, I'd love to have this curiousity answered..

Did you read his name? It said "Farmer" so I'm assuming the guy is a Farmer. Farmers typically need bigger tires to manuver over rough terrain and smooth out the chug holes on those farm trails. That will require a lift kit.

Does that answer your question?

To an extent. But needing something for that purpose would also require, or at least be better served, with a 4WD no? Just seems to me that anyone that would need a lift for that purpose would also have seen the need for 4WD when purchasing the truck to begin with. Dunno, just strikes me as odd for some reason...

Most of the Farmers where I live have 4wd trucks, but their actual work truck that does all the beating and banging is usually 2wd. That is because most of the 4wd fall apart when used daily on a farm. The 2wd holds up better and is cheaper to maintain.

That makes sense to me. I don't know if that's an all inclusive answer, but it is a viable answer that gives me at least one reason that amkes sense..Thanks Wip...
