I'm in the process of buying a 2004 Dakota SXT 4x2. I'm curious if anyone has any knowledge of problems with it. I noticed other posts about factory recalls, where could I find out such information?

Thanks,
Bren

04's are to new to tell yet, but if history says anything it the ball joints and the breaks people have the most problems with.

I bought an 04 Dakota SXT 4x4 in December, and really like it. I only have 2 minor complaints so far:
1) I've been getting around 12 MPG, but it has also been a pretty cold winter here in MN, so it may be because the truck won't use OD when it is too cold.
2) There are only 2 tiedowns in the rear of the truck, with none in the front. I just wish there were more. I'll probably end up adding some aftermarket.

Otherwise I haven't had any problems, but it is pretty early.

Tippy,
The 04's don't have tie downs in the front? Are you sure? I haven't paid that close attention to the 04's, but why would they remove the front tie downs? That makes no sense. Do you not have the two 1-1/2" X 2-1/2" black oval rubber plugs in the bed of your truck just behind the cab? If you do, that's the tie down. They are there for the sole purpose ratcheting down motorcyles. I'm curious now, I will have to go by the dealership tomorrow to see this for myself. I hate going there. When they see my R/T they come running...........

Doug,

If you plan on hauling or towing alot, then go with the V-8. Since I'm goin to the flatlands of New Mexico and won't be towing anything, the V-6 is better for me.

I put 2k on mine in under a month and no problems. Mine came with the factory bedliner and the front tiedowns are under the Ram head covers.

04 v8 Quad 4.7 4wd auto. 8700 miles.

popping sound in tight turns, vibration in the steering wheel. Was at dealership on Saturday and they measured everything and said it was fine. Went straight to private mechanic who told me I have warped rotors. Evidently, only the knuckle-scraping grease monkeys who do oil changes work on Saturdays, anybody who knows how to diagnose or fix anything gets weekends off. So we'll see what they say on Wednesday.

by the way the vibration in the steering wheel is when braking and it was the pads and rotors they measured, sorry wasnt clear about that.

My odometer is off by 0.03 miles/mile. (Long story here's short version)My truck came with the overhead console computer and if I set both trip odometers to zero at the same time after a couple of miles the instrument cluster odometer is behind. I know the instrument cluster odometer is behind based on the highway mile markers. Dodge won't replace the instrument cluster since they think it's within specification.

Oh as for the front tie downs, my truck has them they are located under rubber plugs on the bed just behind the cab.

I thought the oval rubber plugs were drainage plugs, but was happily surprised when I removed them to find tiedowns. Woohoo!
