I recently bought a 93 Dakota club cab with a 5.2.The radiator is brand new. the other day I was stuck in a traffic jam in about 95 deg.temp the gauge went to about half way with the A/C on is this normal? When I shut the A/C off there was no change until trafic got moving then it came back down. it also did this pulling a grade with A/C on. both times it did not go past half way.

What temperature is halfway up the guage for you? 210? In bumper-to-bumper traffic, mine cranks up past the previously 195F setting, and now past 180F. Problem is the clutch fan doesn't do much unless the engine is running at a cruising speed, so though it kicks in the engine is running slowly enough not to produce sufficient airflow. If you think it's going to overheat, try popping it in neutral and holding the engine up a bit to get that fan moving. That and horses are why I want to get an electric fan in the future. HTH. -tk

I have the same year and motor you do. I have ahd to replace the temp sending unit and the one for the computer aswell. On my truck the needle on the temp gauge usually stays at no more than 1/4-1/3 when fully warmed. You gauge reading sounds normal to me.

The gauge dosn't have numbers on it. It nomaly runs about 1/4-1/3 like Andrew's. I live in the Hi Desert just outside Los Angeles and drive up and down the Cajon pass. I don't drive the truck every day as I commute 100 miles a day ,I drive my 35 MPG Nissan.
