I seriously need some help on this: I've got a '00 quad 4x4 with a loud grinding coming from somewhere. Sounds like the front. Similar to a chain rubbing against a piece of tin, best I can describe it. It comes when I give it a little throttle, then quites when the torque levels off. Everytime I tap the pedal, i hear it loudly.
Also, when I rev the engine in park, it stutters at 45k rpms and doesnt want to push higher.
Any ideas on either of these would be greatly appreciated.

grindstaff-
i got something similar to your grind sound. first time i took it in to the dealer they said they didnt hear anything. second time they told me there's nothing wrong. i don't believe them, but i got it in writing on the work orders so i'm covered. and its been prolly 20k miles with no problems attributed to it. works for me!

Installed a Durango PCM in my Dakota and although it runs better (see my other post)the abs and brake lights come on. I've read the posts about this being traced to the rear ABS sensor, so I'm thinking I may need to change to a Durango sensor...or is it because I don't have 4-wheel ABS and the Durango PCM is looking for the front sensor?

How big can I go?

I have an 88 V6 dakota 2WD. Could someone please tell me what size of rims and tires I can put on. How big can I go before they start rubbing on the fenders? Right now I think I have 175-15's but they look too small.

grindstaff, I wonder if you have an exhaust leak at the manifold. That would be LOUDER underload, during acceleration and would quiet as you come to a steady speed under less load.

As for the revving in park, well these things have a low rev limiter when in park. My 2003 wont even rev to 4K. On the tach anyway, and it could be too slow to show the real peak RPM.

Hope that helps. There sure are a bunch of fukk nuts on this thread. If the guy is offering some INSIDE info from a mechanic room mate you should be a little more serious. Otherwise he'll get bored with you punks real fast and not be around to help someone who seeks it!
