Can anyone tell me what the code P0442 means? I did the on - off - on - off and this is what came up in the odometer. Thanks.

this is a pretty common code. make sure your gas cap is tight. if it is you may have to replace it or it could be an emissions leak somewhere else. But check gas cap first.

FYI when you get a code put it into a google search and the cause comes right up.

P0442- Evaporative Emission Cotrol System Leak Detected (small leak). Try the gas cap first and then reset the light and see if that works. If any of your vac lines going to the EVAP equipment are cracked or split you will get this code also on small leaks.

here i got this off an old post that had the same question:
To reset the PCM all you have to do is disconect the neg battery cable. then turn the key to the START position for about 20 seconds. then reconnect you battery and your all set

good luck

I had same problem... replaced cap and hooked compter up and said the problem was resolved. New cap does the trick. It is easier to have someone at a service station reset the code for you. Disconnect the battery and lose things like clock, radio memory etc....
