I just bought a 2001 Dak SLT Club Cab 4x4. I wanted the light group (fog lights) but couldn't find one with them. Is that something the dealer can sell me in a kit? If so, anybody installed them yourself? Thanks.

I had exactly the same experience. In fact i think I paid for them when I ordered the truck from the factory. That is another battle though.

Pilot makes a kit for the Dakota. PL-119C I purchased the kit through TC's Offroad in Kent, WA. I think many places would carry the brand.

2 fog/driving lights(H3 bulbs), mounting bracket and wiring are included. A 4" hole is needed through the air dam. I have not installed it yet. The mounting looks easy. The wiring is the challenge. I have not found a good way to get wires through the fire wall and would appreciate any ideas there.

For BT:
Dodge offers fog light kit that comes complete with the factory switch. It runs about $140 and the installation is straighforward with the directions. The hardest part is to cut out the blanks-be careful and take your time. A suggestion if you decide to go with the factory lights is not to hook up the red wire to the 74 way connector-when you connect it, your fog lights turn off with your high beams-kinda stupid.

For JP:
A good place to run the wires is through the hood release grommet-follow it all the way back up to the firewall. Poke a hole through there and then be sure to seal it up with some silicone when you are through. You might also want to remove the lower kick panel to get easier access to your wires.

FYI, the last time I checked with the dealer the factory kit was not available. Also that kit comes with fairly weak lights (an 800 or 900 series bulb I think). If you want more than decorative look consider the Pilot kit with H3's. Would be nice to have the factory switch though. I think I will try to retrofit it later. Wire it to the new relay switch.

Thanks for the tip on the way to get through the fire wall. I was thinking that looked like best option. Nice to have another opinion there.

JP,
If you don't mind me asking, do you remember about how much you paid for the Pilot set of fog lamps? I went to their website and found the set you bought but they didn't include the price. I wanted to see how it compared to the price of the factory lamps. Thanks

BT, I paid $117.95 for the set. I got it installed yesterday too. Looks good! I am still tucking wires away and need to aim the lights but I am happy with the way it went. If you have any questions about the install I'll be glad to share.

I found some Pilot Fog Lights at two different
Internet sites. However, the prices are much different.
What model Pilot lights did you get, and where
did you get them from.
Check the links below.

I found the Pilot Website at:

JP,
Is the install something that should be done by the pros or is it something I could do some weekend?

BB2,
If you look at the second posting on this page (the one by JP) it says the model that will work on the dakotas.

Thanks again

You said that dodge does have a fog light kit. I was wondering if you had the part number. When I called the local dealership they told me that there was not a fog light kit.

Check the link below, I got the PL 119C

http://www.pilotautomotive.com/pilot2be.htm

I purchased them from a local 4X4 Parts shop, TC's Offroad here in Kent, WA. Hope that helps.

For BT, I'm no pro but spent most of a day on it. Nothing complicated, I just wanted it to look clean in the cab as well as under the hood. I did route the one white wire that has to go through the firewall along the speedometer cable. I think you could use the hood release cable also. Good luck.

I'm thinking that 822... is the part # but not sure, it may also be 20...--And I know the other is the manufacturing date.
On the instruction booklet it is called "Fog-Lamps Install Kit." Hope this helps you, let me know if you need some other numbers.

99DDSCC,

Thanks fot the help. I called the dealership and got the part numbers.

These are the part numbers if anybody else is looking for a set of factory fog light.

97-98 dakota you have to buy the lights and the installation kit separetly. The installation
kit includes the wire harness and the switch.
Lights part # 82202532 Cost $70.00
Installation Kit Part # 82204221 Cost $91.50

For the 99-2000 Dakota the light and wire harness are in the same kit

Kit Part # 82205658 Cost $130.00

Hope this helps anybody looking for the factory fog lights.

Finally my fog lights are installed !
I bought them from AutoAccessory.com
(watch for the link at the top of the page)

Bought the Dakota fog light kit: PILPL119X
They were running an internet special, and I got
the lights for $69.95 + Shipping.
I noticed that the price is now up to $79.95

I used a knife to cut the holes in the air dam,
and then cleaned it up using a dremel tool with
a sanding wheel.

The hardest part was running the wire into the cab
The rubber around the hood release was hot and sticky in the 90+ humid degrees, and I could not
get anything into that rubber sleeve.
I gave up and ended up running the wire along the
fender and under the front doorseal. Then ran the wire in through the fuse box access.
I may try to re-run the wire when the temperature
cools down.

I installed using the switch and relay from the
kit, and wired the light switch to a ignition
key-on fuse.

It looks good, and the lights are bright.

I also talked to the Dodge dealer about a factory
light kit. I was told that the price is now
$170.00 and they still have no idea when the kit
will be available.

In the preceeding string I noticed that one mentions not to hook up a wire (on the aftermarket kits) that would turn off the fogs when the high beams are on. I have the factory fogs and would like them to stay on when the high beams are on. Does anyone know how to do this? Are there any laws that prevent this operation (it seems silly that the fogs go out when the high beams are on)?

The Fog Light Kit comes with an "L-Shaped"
bracket that attaches to the frame of the truck.

However, the bracket attaches via a pincer type
arrangement. The bracket has a "u-shaped" channel
with bolts on one side. The U-shaped channel
slides over the frame, and then the bolts are
tightened to push one side of the u-shaped
channel against the frame.

It looks fairly solid, but I think that I will
put a safety strap on it just in case.

The way that I wired my lights is set so that
the power is NOT related to the headlights at all.
If the key switch is on, I can turn the fog lights
on independent of the headlights.

I wired mine so the fog lights are independent of the headlights. They are aimed low so they can function while headlights are on either high or low beam. I am still pleased with the installation.

It used to be in most states that you could only have four forward faceing lights on at a given time,ie. headlights on high two elements on high & low or low beam and fog or cornering lights. This is the possible reason for the fog lights going off when the high beam is selected on.

I have an '03 Quad Cab, without foglights. I intend to install some foglights eventually. Would prefer to keep it as factory as possible (as far as the switch goes). Haven't gotten a price on the kits yet. I asked a local inspection station attendant as to why the fogs turn off when the highbeams are on. He said it is a state law here in VT that they must turn off when highbeams are switched on. Even if they are not factory fogs, they still must turn off with the highbeam. Otherwise you cannot legally get the vehicle inspected. Interesting...

I have a 2002 Durango that came with fog lights from the factory. The factory lights are plastic & cheap, one of them is cracked as well which causes the bulb to go out immediately due to moisture.

I bought Pilot Fog Lights part number PL-199C.

They do not line up at all with the existing mounting holes. They also came equiped with all the wiring and switch but they will not plug into the factory harness.

If anyone has replaced exising fog lights on a Durango/Dakota please help.

Thanks
