My 2001 QC will arrive from the factory in a few days. I’m looking for some help on creating an inspection check list to make sure the truck doesn’t have any obvious problems. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Use the one in the back of the Dodge Dakota Service manal. It is the same one that the dealer is supposed to use to prep the vechile prior to sale. Their is no reason why the dealer can not give you a copy. My 2001 was 1/2-1 quart low on oil and was also low on power steering fluid. I realy did not sweat the 1/2-1 quart because the dipstick was still barely reading at the safe line. I did realise right away that they must not have preped the vechile. I took it back the next day and they put some more oil in it and some power steering fluid.

I agree with Python97. Check the paint and when your done checking the paint, check it again. I have had to have a few spots repainted on my factory ordered Dak QC. Also, look closely at the bottom of the body, at or just above the pinch weld, I had a ton on clear coat "drips" and build up in that area.
Also, if you ordered the SLT, make sure the hood insulation is installed. The broucher clearly states that one comes with the SLT package. They special orderd mine and installed it for me.
Other than that, everything else looked good.
Good luck and welcome to Dak QC ownership, you're gonna love it.
Roger

I agree - check the paint very well - even take a pair of women's hose with you and wipe over the hood. If you feel any snags, look out. The paint was thin on my driver side front fender from being buffed too much. Could see the primer thru the black. Not to mention swirl marks under the clear coat.

check the rear axle, and make sure the tires are sticking out the same on both sides. some have the right side 1-2" out farther that the left. MAKE THEM FIX IT before taking it home, or they might never fix it

If they say it's normal that's BS, mine is even, THATS normal

George, when did you order your truck? I went to order a 2001 - oh, about mid May and was told that you could no longer order 2001's. So, I have a 2002 on order with a long wait. Thanks for time.
P.S. how long did you have to wait? My dealer showed me a memo that said 2002 Dakotas would begin production on July 23rd and orders will be filled on a first ordered - first serve basis. He says about mid August for mine, but I sure ain't gonna hold my breath. Thanks again.

I appreciate everyone’s suggestions. I also found an earlier thread that discussed the same topic and someone(Mace) referenced a Ram checklist that I think is very useful. It can be found at http://dodgeram.org/buying_info/Inspect.htm

Throttle, I didn't order my QC. It was order by the dealer and built on May 19th(and still not in) I decided to buy the truck after looking at the invoice and deciding that the options were a close enough match compared to what I was looking for. My dealer also said that May was too late to order a 2001. Finally, I agree that you shouldn’t hold your breath waiting for the 2002 to come in. It’s hard to be patient!

Wow. It was built on May 19th and you STILL haven't seen it?!?

Wonder what the hold up is? Or is it being shipped out of the country or somethin?

Best of luck to ya!

I don't understand it either Blizzard. My dealer assures me that they are just as anxious the get it to me as I am to receive it. That’s the way they make money. But the waiting is driving me crazy.

I can see that you take a lot of pride in your QC and I will take a lot of pride in mine as well. Thanks.

Thanks, George! I'm sure your quad cab will rest in good hands as well! I know how much fun the waiting game is. And I only waited 5 weeks. Hang in there ... it'll be worth the wait!
