Get the factory service manual it's the best. Those other two manuals are horrible.

Since the main difference between 2000 and 2001 was the dashboard and throttle bodies on the 4.7, the info in Chilton's #20404 "Chrysler Full-Size Trucks 1997-00" is relevant. About $16 at O'Rielly's. Factory manuals $90+. First low-cost manual with 4.7 info.

I have a Haynes manual and have found it useful for certain things. You must have a good knowledge of auto repair to use them in my opinion. There have been important steps that they don't explain well or leave out altogether. It is useful for getting proper torque settings, capacities, etc. If you are a novice, don't expect this to help you through a project that is over your head. Ex. I had to replace my heater core. To do this you must remove almost everything from the truck except the engine block and the seats(although removing the seats would have helped). I would have never been able to do it just relying on their instructions because there are hidden bolts, wire connectors, etc that they do not mention, and it also does not explain how to put some of the things back. I have found this same trend true on other projects as well.

I have always liked Chilton manuals and always hated Hanes manuals. It seems to me that the Chillton manuals make sense and flow logically, while on the other hand Hanes manuals have you flipping from this section to that section and leave out important specs.

I remember working on my friends truck and the Hanes manual said to turn to page XX for the specs and they weren't there. Then on another subject they said to refer to the vechile sticker for the specs, well the vehicle sticker didn't have the specs. It appeared to me that the manual had all the no-brainer stuff, but didn't have the finer details that we needed.

Spend the $90+ and get the FSM - considering the thousands you're going to save in labor costs over the years it is well worth it.

I have not bought a Chilton in years, but the ones I have from the 60's are as thick or thicker than the factory manuals. They went into tremendous detail. I'm sure the new ones aren't as good. For them to put that kind of detail in todays manuals would require about 5,000 pages. I have a couple from the 80's and they are much more generic, but they are still better than Haynes.
