Wiplash does have a point, taken straight of the allpar site:
"The 5.7, like its LA predecessors, has a cast iron cylinder block; however, it weighs less and is smaller than the 5.9. It was designed with a single in-block camshaft and only two valves per cylinder, resulting in very low production costs; development and production costs, in fact, are supposed to be less than the new 4.7 liter Mopar V8 which in turn was considerably cheaper to produce than the old LA 318

There are articles out there detailing the cost advantages of the 4.7L over the 5.2L. DC's goal was to make an engine that matched the 5.2L in HP/Torque, have lower emissions, and cost less to manufacture. I’ve read most of them. I didn’t archive any of them because I never dreamed I would have to defend myself over a topic that’s as absurd as this one.

Those are standard project guidelines given to every project engineer that has ever been in a manufacturing environment.

With 15 years of engineering experience, I have never been given the "Green Light" to do a project that wouldn't pay for itself in increased profits in a very short time. Nobody changes the design of something to increase cost and decrease profits....

That is ludicrous! Listen to what yaw are saying. That is not how manufacturing works. If DC did make the decision to build an engine that was going to cost more to build than the 5.2l it replaced, when they are already loosing money, then we will all be driving Fords or Chevy's real soon.
