Subject: ticking sound from dash??
IP: Logged

Message:
i am getting a ticking sound from the dash somewhere and i cant figure out what it is. it changes with RPM so i thought that it might be the tach. removed the tach and turned the truck on ...still had the ticking sound. looked under the hood and i could hear a ticking sound but i am not sure where it is coming from. sounded like it was coming from somewhere close to firewall but again i am not sure. one other thing the passenger side of my truck sits about 1 1/2 in lower than the driver side. i can fix the front with the t-bars but is there any way that i can adjust the height of the bed? i measured at the axle and both sides are the same so i know that the body is off. any help would be great thanks.

I just noticed the same type of noise comming from under my hood towards the right side of the truck. It increases as my RPMs increase but i belive it is drownded out by the engine noise as i rev higher or increase speed. It sounds either like a valve or rocker thats loose or an exhaust leak. I plan on stopping by the dealer on the way home and see if they can identify it.

My 99 5.2 does the same thing!
I tried replacing the lifters and rockers, but NO FIX.

Still makes the same noise from the right side of the engine, sounds exactly like lifter/rocker noise. hasnt gotten any worse though in 2 years.

Still driving it everyday.

check and see if its coming from a smog valve that is located by the battery on the driver side of the body. It will probably be mounted on the side wall. with the engine running you can put you hand on the valve and feel it clicking. it will be by the evap canister. if this is it, just rubber mount it away from the body and you should'nt hear it anymore in the cab but you will still hear it faintly in the engine compartment with the hood open. hope this is it and it helps.

I took my 2001 QC into the dealer this morning regarding the ticking noise and they just called letting me know its the belt tensioner makeing the noise. $50.00 deductible for the belt tensioner which was covered under my warantee and $105 for a new belt.
