Subject: P0455, but not gas cap

Not too long ago, I got the check engine light. It started off as P0442, and then turned into P0455. I read through some threads on the board, and decided to replace the gas cap. I bought one from the dealership, reset the computer, and the code came back 2 or 3 days later, and has stayed on since. Any ideas as to what the problem could be? thanks for any help.

I am not sure if this will fix your problem but I had the same codes. It turned out to be one of three emission hoses that came off the Evaporator canister that is mounted on the frame rail just behind the cab on the drivers side. check to see if the hoses are connected to this canister.

I hope this helps.

Dave

Will,
How did you reset the computer? I had a check engine light and code P0455. My light has gone out but the code is still there. My thought was to disconnect hoses at the purge valve and plug the ports to make the fault go away and then reconnect things one at a time.

What's funny is I drove home after getting gas the other day (about 15 miles) and in one of my moments of brain fade I grabbed my receipt from the pump and drove off leaving the cap off and the fuel door open. Getting old sucks ;)

Not once during the 20 minute drive did I get a MIL. Whats up with that?

To reset the computer, disconnect the negative battery terminal, put the key in the ignition, turn it to on, and leave it there for 15 seconds. I didn't check out the Evaporator canister yet, but thanks, i'll definitely take a look at it some time soon.
