Subject: No CAT, Need Inspection!!
IP: Logged

Message:
After my cat started breaking up, I ran pipe in the place of it. This was about a year ago and I know that the O2 sensor is bad, but now i've got a prob. My state has just started the emissions testing. My inspection comes up next month and the way it is now is not going to pass. I left the stock muffler on but want to change it too. Anybody know if those O2 bypass boxes will pass an emissions test? If so, how can I get one. If not, what cat to choose? I would like to go with a high flow, but want to make sure it will pass. Also looking to put a new muffler on. Let me know your thoughts, what to buy, and what to expect?

you better get to hopping you're going to need at least 3-500 miles in it with all the proper sensors & cat just to get it to pass.

An O2 bypass box will not do the trick in my state. Our inspection stations stick a sensor into the tailpipe to measure emissions of the actual exhaust air.

It all depends on how they do the inspection. If they bust out the mirror to check for a cat and you don't have one - they're gonna want you to get one. In any case there's a good chance you'll need one to pass the exhaust test. Two high-flow cat names I've heard of are Carsound and Xtreme Flow, don't really know anything about them, just read of them on other posts.

Federal (not state) law requires you to have a functional cat. No way around that. And the inspection station will probably look for the O2 sensor. And even if they don't, the sensor is usually cheaper than black box.

They don't look for any of that stuff where I am if your MIL light functions properly - this will depend on what state you're in.

Not me, but others have posted, (not going to look it up either), that they passed without their cat, with the exhaust gasses being checked. It also depends on how well your engine is tuned, etc.

if you really want to pass your inspection, just go to a few different places.you will eventually find a place that doesnt do all of the inspection.the lazy places around here generally check, lights, horn, and tires.find a seedy looking place to do it.i live in texas, just got my inspection done, and i have 21/2 inch true duals with no cats.i pulled up to an exxon to get a tire fixed, and the guy asked me "your inspection is due this month, you want me to just go ahead and inspect it for you too?"he just turned on all the lights and honked the horn and slapped a sticker on!

and i know of several places around here that are like that.surely there are a few where you live.apparently,a little dishonesty can go a long way!

well, I'm already having to find a rip off place to pass me because of my black windows. I called magnaflow, figured out what i needed. looked on ebay, and there it was, allready bid and won, got a catsound shipped for $40. Figured it's gotta be a sign so i went ahead and ordered it. Now i'm just trying to figure out what muffler. I'm gonna go ahead and replace that while i'm down there. 3.9 w/ perf. throttle body, cowl hood w/ top intake, IAT Adjuster, and TPS mod. Already have duals just want a perf. muffler
