I'm looking to buy a dakota soon, looking for a 2WD 4.7L Quad Cab Dakota, All i want is the 26G(?) quick order package and maybe one or two more options which comes with the 4.7 and the 5 speed auto trans.
How much did you pay? Maxwell Dodge in austin tx says they will give me invoice plus rebates ( roughly around 21.5k ). What pisses me off though, is you can get a full size Ram 1500 SLT with the same engine and trans for 21.5k!! Why should i pay the same for a smaller truck?? Help!

If it's what you want, the Dak is a faster, quicker, better handling truck. If you want a little more room, etc., get the Ram.

24,100 not including tax for Sport Plus 5 speed auto/4.7/4 wd. Came with 60/40 split bench with cloth, center armrest, 16*7 wheels with 245/70/16 tires, single CD, tilt, power everything, sliding rear window, and fogs among other things. Im sure if they could have found a comparable 03 in my area instead of the 04 Id have done even better.
As for the Ram vs. Dakota price comparison, sure you're comparing apples to apples? Quad Cab to Quad CAb?

2001 4.7L QC SLT 4x4 w/roll n lock toneau cover & Westin step bars.
Bought last February used...$18000
Put a Borla exhaust & Viper mod chip in...$750.
Also a Sony MP3 deck, 500W Rockford Fosgate mono amp, and 3 8" Solo Baric subs for $1000.
Now I need $200 worth of ball joints to keep the thing on the road...........yuck.

I got my purple dak for 3000 used one owner and in very decent condition... except for the salt damage. It is a '97 with 68k miles when I got it in late dec and now 71k today.

I bought my 2000 4.7L club cab a month and a half ago. Fulltime 4wd, LSD, automatic, sport pkg, tire and handling pkg, convenience pkg, towing pkg, 3.92 gears, rolling tonneau cover, bedliner, bug deflector and window shades, factory premium sound, 1 yr/11,500 miles of extended warranty remaining. $12,850 from private seller.
The seller threw in a heavy duty tow strap, a tongue for the receiver hitch and two ball hitches, all of which looked unused.

Go to Edmunds.com and check the invoice price. The should be no reason to pay any more than invoice for a new Dodge truck.
If you feel aggressive and want to "play", make them add in 1-2% of the 3% holdback. Remember, they will not make a deal that doesn't make them money, so don't feel any emotion, it's a business deal.
There should be multiple Dodge dealers in Austin, if one doesn't make the deal you want, go to another.
If you go in informed and reasonable, you can tell quickly if they are willing to make the deal or not. If not, walk.

Hey Fester! - I live in Austin, and have always found Maxwell a bitch to work with on deals. I bought mine from Texas Chrysler Jeep on 35 North of Round Rock - they have some good deals now. Another excellent place would be Benny Boyd in Lampassas - they almost always beat anyone's prices and have mucho better service!

But do you really want a ram with a 4.7ltr engine?
Talk about a dog....my girlfriend has a 02 ram with a 5.9ltr engine, even that truck feels under powered....
Anyways got mine about 8 months ago

Bought 2002SLT RC 4.7L auto for $18,100.00 brand new.
Bought 2000R/T CC with 10,000 miles "used" in July 2001 for $15,990.00. It only has 18,100 miles on it today! Chery.....

Ive actually tried out a Ram Quad with a 5 speed stick and 4.7. Was a total dog. I could only guess that the 4.7 might be adequate in the regular cab, but in the Quad as slow as it felt it might as well have been a v6.
