Hey all...

I am sitting here VERY relieved!!

I bought a 2002 console for my 2002 Dakota on impulse from eBay without even checking if it was possible to install it!..

I have been searching all over the net trying to find any info on the install without any luck.

I went to my dealer to buy the harness but they gave me a HUGE run-around. I emailed Chrysler and they brushed me off....

Tonight... I find this post! YAY!

I have read the whole thread and have a pretty good understanding of what each wire does.

My question now is where do I make the connections? I'm not really sure where to splice the Orange wire and I really don't want to mess with the Vio/Yel connection.

Any help would be appreciated...

Fuzz,

Wow, another one of my old posts!

Forget the dealer and harness.

I found one of my e-mails on this subject, to others that had e-mailed me wanting to do the install.

OK, Here's my advice. It worked for me on my 2001.

1. Forget the wires in the overhead! Use the fuse box where it says something like 'instrument cluster' or something like that, I could go look at mine, well, wait a minute.

OK, I'm back. Well what do you know, good thing I looked! I had to go and look twice!

New directions-here's how I did it. Mine works great!

1. Again, forget the wires already up there.
2. My puter had three wires going from it. A red(or lavender), Orange, and Black.
As you guessed the Black is to a chassis ground.
3. The orange is spiced into the Purple with yellow stripe under the data comm. port.
4. The red is spiced to: ready for this, on my 01, it's into a side of the plug, with the 10Amp fuse,
at site #11. It's labeled as the 'O/H Console Purge' ! - wtf? I don't even remember that!

Anyway, I think if you have the red ground and orange spiced correct, that it's the red into this spot on the fuse panel that's the key.
I think this b/c of a few things. I remember when hooking it up, how impressed I was at the way the illumination system worked. In other words, If the lights are off, the o/h computer is still lit up, like the odometer is. And when you turn on the lights, it dims with the instrument panel dimmer switch!

Try it this way, it won't take long, and see if you get some good results. It works for me.

Good luck,
Todd Bouton

Run the wires from the computer under the headliner, and down the a piller, and to the fuse box just below the a pillar, when you open the drivers door.

PS, the Orange is spiced, with one of those simple blue clip things, no cutting, etc., under the dash, behind the communications port, easiest place to find it. This WORKS!

Thanks

JM,

I don't really have any wiring diagrams anymore.

But it's easy, just follow my directions in the above post, and it'll wirk fine, mine does.

Thanks for the reply :)

Mine is a 02 with an 02 computer so the install was a litte different.

I just had to splice the original 3 wires with their matching colors to the new connector. I then ran 5 wires down the A-Pillar (4 for the harness and a spare for my future radar detector)

Blue/White went to 12V swithed
Black/Green went to ground
Violet/Yellow went to PCI Bus (spliced behind the info port)
Orange was supposed to go to intserment cluster lighting but I didn't connect it. Lights dim fine without it.

I purchased the "Ambient Air Sensor" from my dealer today and it plugged right in to my harness.

Everything works now!

I am going to build a web page detailing the steps needed to do this with pics and everything.
It took me a long time to gather all the info needed to do this, so I figured I would put it all in one place.

I have an 03Dakota Quad Cab. It has extra options but is not loaded. I just purchased an overhead puter from and wrecked 03 Dakota. It has everything including the Home Link. Any help would be appreciated.

I am attmenting to wire it. I have read threw all the above post but my wiring colors don't match the previous post. It did not come with a wire harness. The plug on the puter has six wires. One one side of the plug there is yellow, pink and black. Black is ground I assume, but not sure where the yellow and pink go. The yellow is wired from the overhead lights, and the pink is connected to the lights and overhead computer.

On the other side of the plug there are 3 black wires that come out of the overhead computer. I am assuming they are either for the home link or they could all three be grounds. If anyone has any info that would help with these wire colors and connections I could use your imput.

Thanks

The color of the wires mention above are the wires located on the overhead unit itself. I have figured out that the pink is the hot wire, yellow is court. light and the Black is Interior light. These are the lighting wires.

On the puter itself there are 4 wires besides the tree I have already figured out. 3 Black and 1 pink. The pink is the hot wire which connects to the pink hot on the lights. Does anyone know how to figure out where the 3 black wires go to and what they are? I am assuming one is probably a ground, one to the PCI Bus, and unsure about the third black wire.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I figured it out. Went to the dealership and the chrystler tech. gave me a computer printout for my 03 Quad Cab plug which contained the wire colors, the location of each wire in the plug, and where each wire is run to. I hard wired it and it only took about two hours. Everything works great! Don't need any help after all.

I have a 95 with the overhead Compass/ Thermometer computer. What does the 'puter in the newer Daks have? I'd love to have one like my Aunts old Jeep. It had AVG speed, MPG, Top Speed. IS there a way to put one of those in my truck?

My 03 has Avg. Miles per gallon, Distance to Empty, Compas, Temp, Trip Guage, Home Link (which can be programed to open garage doors, Security gate or turn on ouside secuity lights. It can be programed for all three). Not sure if your truch is capable of these functions. You could call your local Chrystler/Dodge Service department and ask them.
